With you super awesome seniority Jsled, why don't you just bid your captain slot on this current vacancy bid?
1) Doesn't matter. Do you think the company is going to sit on 30 extra Captains in a base? They are bumping right now. There have been bumps almost every month since January somewhere in the system. If your logic made sense that "bumps cause a bubble" why did they displace all these pilots already?

2) Why would he "bid" and take a freeze, when he can bump and go without freeze. That way when the fences drop in 2 years and
Sled realizes he would be in the top 20% of 787 FO's he can just bid over to that seat if he wanted. I haven't "bid" an airplane for 14 years! I've just waited for the bump to cherry pick where I wanted to go.

Absolutely untrue; there was no retroactive conversion of RES days to OFF. While the 4 Movable days off sucked, I cannot fathom why the JNC allowed an increase to 6 for Global pilots in the UPA.

LCAL pilot told me he got 4 days off one month. They could call you on a working reserve day and say we aren't using you today so you are off. Then later in the month use you. He said they HAD to give him 4 days off. He was a commuter.

That's what he told me. I don't have a LCAL contract.

If Global pilots didn't have moveable RDOs the company couldn't staff trips. How you do assign someone on a 6 day trip when they have all blocks of 5 days of reserve days on?

Why would they build 5 day reserve silos in a base that has 6 day trips to begin with? That's their problem if they can't match staffing to the mission. Allow for 1 or 2 RDO's to allow for some flexibility within the daily silos to absorb the longer trips. 6 is overkill, and allows them to staff thinly.

Now , while I know you two dream all night about your "bumps", think about it. If every 76T bumps down to 73 capt, all those junior CAL guys gotta go somewhere. It is more than a bit foolish. The junior Den 737 Cap is almost 9000 on the list. That isn't going to hold. All of the Den 757 pilots (both F/O and Cap) can "hold" 737 Cap right now. That will change as they have to go somewhere.

On the last... the Cap "bids" already happened prior to the SLI. I'm 5000ish on the list and I didn't come close to holding Den Cap on the most recent bid. Less than a month prior to SLI that position went to a CAL pilot almost 4000 numbers junior to me. Welcome to forever reserve for those guys. They will not move up off reserve for a decade or more. That is if they don't get bumped back to 737 F/O in Denver which is really what they should be holding based on the SLI.

I do not think we will ever see a bump on the 737 as we are adding them as fast as we are parking the 757s. The domestic fleet allows for greater flexibility in base sizing by flowing hours in and out of a base based on head count. Just look at some of the 76T bases and the amount of reserves they have in some bases. They have proven they will absorb overages short term to prevent bumps.

The big question is once they run out scabs to staff Sparky who will fill the vacancies?

Ok so you build a 6 day reserve silo. Then you can only assign a 6 day trip if ti starts on the 1st day? So you have a 1/30 chance to be able to assign a Global reserve at any given time. You'd have to have a TON of reserves.

Global reserve is easy anyway. Sit at home and don't fly usually. Then get a call out the day before giving you plenty of commute time.

I think for global reserve its crazy to not have moveable RDOs.

In any case, they STILL get their days off. If RDOs get moved, they get them later in the month as days off.

Remember Scott these are the same people that told us longevity was only a "consideration" which meant it didn't have to be used at all, just considered.

But you are right. There are guys who live in DEN and commute to Airbus Captains is SFO and LAX that are also waiting to get back to DEN. Not to mention about 400 DEN based 76T pilots who will all roll into guppy Captains if they could.
