I do not think we will ever see a bump on the 737 as we are adding them as fast as we are parking the 757s. The domestic fleet allows for greater flexibility in base sizing by flowing hours in and out of a base based on head count. Just look at some of the 76T bases and the amount of reserves they have in some bases. They have proven they will absorb overages short term to prevent bumps.
The big question is once they run out scabs to staff Sparky who will fill the vacancies?

I hope you are right about displacements. I don't want to see any pilots displaced. What happened for the last 3 years wasn't their fault, and they shouldn't be punished for it. But this is what I "think" will happen....
The company will put out 737 Captain bids. They will initially go to only pilots in the top half of the seniority list. Then as they displace off the 76T those pilots (unable to hold it on the regular bids) can displace to it because they can hold it. There are lots of Airbus Captains on reserve that are friends of mine telling me how they can get off reserve on the Bus and be senior on the Guppy. So they might bid off. Plus we have many senior Airbus FOs who were guppy Captains (About 70% of all Airbus FOs can hold guppy Captain)
So the 76T guys don't have to bid. They can wait and just bump over.
I predict that is whats going to happen. All I care is that if their seniority can hold it, that they have the right to sit in that seat.
Remember UAL had 150+ guppies at one time. Almost everyone hired here has flown it, and many current FOs were Captains on it. Those FOs are in the 5500-7500 seniority range right now. WELL senior to the 8000-9500 seniority guys there now.
At least this is what I predict based on seeing how senior the other recent Captain bids went.

Ok so you build a 6 day reserve silo. Then you can only assign a 6 day trip if ti starts on the 1st day? So you have a 1/30 chance to be able to assign a Global reserve at any given time. You'd have to have a TON of reserves.
Global reserve is easy anyway. Sit at home and don't fly usually. Then get a call out the day before giving you plenty of commute time.
I think for global reserve its crazy to not have moveable RDOs.
In any case, they STILL get their days off. If RDOs get moved, they get them later in the month as days off.

It makes it harder to proactively plan for life events with your family when half of your days off are on the hook to be reshuffled.

747 is a premuim aircraft. It should pay more. 777 as well. Lowering that pay to accomodate the 767-400 was a stupid idea. They only pay the same because the CAL NC insisted on it because they were afraid UAL would use it as a status and category advantage.
Didn't matter. UAL got the advantage still since 747 and 777 were counted as Jumbo by the arbitrators per the UAL MC proposal, and the 767-400 was put into mid-body with the UAL 757-200s.
So it didn't work, and now we all get to fly a 747 or 777 for less than we could have been paid.
Its a good thing the remnants of the CAL ALPA structure are in the history books.

Btw our WB rates differ little from DAL's WB rates when you adjust for the budget year we gave Jeffery. Any attempt to obtain higher WB rates would have taken money from elsewhere. One piece of UAL culture I plan to fight is the tendency (esp over the last decade) to screw the narrowbody guys in order to shield the WB 'premium' types as much as possible.

Pilot and Jsled:
While I agree that saying they will be capts for life is a bit foolish… But what concrete source do you have that the bumps are coming. In the last FOU this question was asked directly, and they said no. They even had a hard time bumping the SEA guys.
Now , while I know you two dream all night about your "bumps", think about it. If every 76T bumps down to 73 capt, all those junior CAL guys gotta go somewhere. The cascade effect would be so bad, they would have to hire an additional 250 pilots just for the training bubble( that's what I have been told).
With you super awesome seniority Jsled, why don't you just bid your
captain slot on this current vacancy bid?

Hire 250 pilots to fix a training bubble????????????
Had a hard time bumping SEA 777?????? They are closing the 777 in SEA. What was the other choice?
Are you really a pilot?

There are 1,400 L-UAL FOs flying as 76T FOs. They are in EVERY BASE. LAX, SFO, SEA, DEN, ORD, JFK, IAD, and IAH. They aren't going to bid off on anything.
The company announced the parking of 91 jets, which equates to about 800 of those pilots being displaced out of their slots. They ALL REALIZE that they can mosly hold guppy Captain in their own home base. These are guys who are EXPERTS at playing this game. We went through this in 2001-2003 and again in 2009. They know exactly how to bump and how the game works.
The company can say whatever they want, but there are 76T FO's that can mostly hold Guppy Captain.
Not to mention the same number of 76T Captains, most of which willl also bump into those guppy Captain bids.
That makes about 1,800 of the 7,400 L-UAL pilots with about 87% of them able to not only hold guppy Captain, but most of the lineholders.
They will be bumping to those seats. I'd do the exact same thing in that fleet. I can hold guppy Captain in my base by over 3,500 seniority numbers. I'd be a good lineholder.

So UAL guys that are paid 'premium' for the 767-400 will not benefit? Should we have ratcheted down the 787 as well? Doesn't look very 'premium' to me.

The point is that the 787 and 767-400 are basically similar size aircraft. A 747 is twice as large and should have paid much more!!!
But the CAL NC insisted that that NOT HAPPEN because they felt it would look like United brought a premium aircraft to the merger (which it did) and get an advantage in SLI. (Which it STILL DID)

There is that culture word again. Adding fuel when you need it is now a culture thing. Sorry but it has been done for years. Sorry your career has been a long sit in the right seat but on the bright side that is only a L-UAL thing. Now that you have stolen jobs, much like the scabs you seem to hate. I think you will find the "culture" your looking for. Hopefully that is clear enough for you brain surgeon! It's been said before but enjoy your windfall. By the way that's my name attached not a hide behind. But hey, I guess it's all culture.
What's your name?
What's your name?
