Lee...the verbiage in the award is no pre-merger L-CAL or pre-merger L-UAL pilot..may bid into these aircraft (747 or 787). They are pre-merger L-UA pilots and represented by the L-UA MC? Caveat is un filled seats etc...Based on the award, seems to me that no L-UA furloughee or active pilot and/or L-CAL pilot has rights to the others (787/747)aircraft until the fence comes down. I do think they can bid the 747, if there seniority could hold...
That was how it was explained to me by the MC as well....

I think its a programming thing because he has a CAL employee number.

We're just greedy and prefer to be treated like professionals and adults. That's really what this boils down to. Many of the changes we're seeing are questionable and we don't think they're making the product or reliability any better. In some cases they appear to be making it worse. They're just pointing the "you've been a bad boy" digit at us and we find them objectionable.
The "them" in us vs. them is primarily the honchos in Willis, not you drivers. Of course, if someone wants to talk smack we're happy to respond in kind.

So, my take is, those of us who took the "job offer" to LCAL have a unique position of not being fenced from either side.

If you bid Sparky, you get to fly with scabs. Every day.
I spent my first 7 years at UAL flying with scabs and 570 (same thing) 80% of the time. At least I got to fly with normal people 20% of the time. On Sparky, looks like less than 10%.

And yet you would have ceased to exist. From the ISL award.. "CAL's future was cloudy at best"
Who said that Snarge? Your buddy Smisek? How is SW, JB, Alaska doing? Both you and Smisek are full of crap.
We heavily control our culture.. we aren't management's scab friendly wage slaves.
Unless you count caving on scope and TWO bankruptcy contracts bringing you to one of the lowest paid legacy airlines.
Your Contract 02 is an embarrassment.
Our contract 02 was signed in 2005, how were you guys doin' then?
Your flight ops support for the pilots is a joke... you've known no different so you think it is normal... Now that your 'culture' has been exposed you are defending kissing your sister. We don't do that.
I guess you just beat her like the F'n hoar you think she is, right?
The new pilot culture will be defined by the United pilots. You are one. You can be a part of it, or you can pout like a little child that you didn't want this merger, blah blah blah...
We intend to make this the best pilot group to belong to. Better than the Deltoids and AMR boys.....
Well, at least we can agree on something.
We will define, control and protect the profession. We will lead the charge and if you want to cower in the foxhole counting your 'overs', your choice.
As professionals we put the country and the traveling public first, even if means we miss our commute home.
Oh, is that why your old contract has jumpseaters in the aircraft OEW? Is that why you can bump revenue pax for the B757 second jumpseat? Once again full of crap.
We will expect our govt to protect American jobs, American soil and airways. We bring the greatest aviation safety influence to the table and we will continue to do so....
With the lost decade over, the merger behind us and scabs falling off the seniority list... and the industry... ready to move capital (and our jobs) globally, the time is now to grab the same rope and pull. If you want to pout that you didn't want this merger, live in the past chasing dollar bills, that your choice.... sounds like JB is the pilot group for you.
Wear your pin and join the profession.

T38, if you continue to allow these attacks by Snarge on the Continental guys we are going to go back to the sniping of the past. This has been a much better board since you guys kicked off Staller.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but your compensation was only a **** better than ours and we were in bankruptcy. So there's not really a lot to crow about there. Add the 16% B/C fund contribution and the work rules, many of which have an easily defined dollar value and you'll find that our total compensations were pathetically on par. Of course we know that you guys had F/O's making five jillion bucks through various shenanigans, but how bout we focus on what a guy who flies his 15-16 day line averages and not the Marvins who sleep on the plane and give up all their days off. Seriously, one of your Marvin's was bragging that he spent the night on the plane one time. If I were the other pilot, or a pax I would have walked.
So, how about we stop shouting at one another and start shouting at THEM?

And there is the arrogance Ben is talking about. Granted, it's a select few, and I have never met one LUAL pilot who talks like that in person, only these keyboard commandos on the web boards. Also, what you said is 90% incorrect, but we are not going to change each other's minds.

You do know that our airplanes are pressurized so that DES NOW versus a flight idle doesn't make a damn bit difference?
As far as steak dinners and ceremonies, some of you guys need some real world perspective. 99% of people in the real world don't get a lavish dinner or ceremony when they get hired somewhere, not doctors, bankers, or even CEOs. It's "here's your office, get to work" but pilots tend to think they are special. Business culture has changed, fine with me just keep the checks coming and I'll show up, do my job, and go home and enjoy my time away from work.

I know we as pilots are not on the same level as a specialized doctor, but for the love of god they command respect and are treated like a valuable asset right out of the gates. With that said, as an outsider looking in I praise the notion of LUAL guys trying to stick to a solid tradition of being treated as professionals and having an opportunity to celebrate what should be a monumental accomplish of getting hired at a major legacy airline. There will be plenty of years to come after the honeymoon phase as ended to just show up to work and collect the pay. For the new guys coming to UAL, I fully support a bit of pride, respect and believe it or not celebration of achievement.

Actually you are not 100% correct there. Specialized Doctors are getting some pretty damn good treatment when they are being recruited... yeah I said BEING RECRUITED unlike pilots standing hundreds deep in job fair lines and spending hundreds of dollars to get 5 minutes of face time. Only to be hired and thrown a pair of wings in a baggy on your desk during a coffee break. When my wife and the rest of her residency class were recruited a few years back I was shocked by the amount of steak dinners, hotels and chauffeur services that were being offered to everyone from multiple groups.
