You will find exceptions but for the most part what I said was true. I do want and expect to be respected by the company but steak dinners do not come to mind. I'd rather have my 100% retro instead of the 30% I got, let's start there. In fact I have a whole laundry list of ways the company can show respect, with steak dinners being #99 out of 100. I've got bigger fish to fry.

Dude, the steak dinner isn't the issue. It was the welcome and the acknowledgement that we brought a lot to the operation. Thats where it started. We got respect and our opinions were VALUED. That carried onto the line. That's the culture we'd like to maintain. The comestibles on day one just set the tone.

James. sorry to correct The Godfather, but you don't mean maintain... you mean recapture. A steak dinner doesn't make up for lost pensions, pay cuts and furloughs. Priorities, my brother.

Wait a second! You mean to tell me there's a "Ready" prompt on ACARS meaning the crew is... well... ready?

Seems like the winning answer to me.

I fully agree with your comment. However, what I've seen lately (post Jeff) is a full scale assault on Captains authority and pilot pushing. They're treating us like commuter pukes. I spent a LOT of time in a turboshaker and I don't want to go back to that type of treatment. Hence my comment.

Carry on.

PS I thought I defused the whole steak dinner thing in my previous.

There's a difference?

You really are hung up on this steak dinner thing. It was how they chose to say welcome. Just like having the class pictures taken by the Jeppesen statue at DIA. I and everyone in my class felt fortunate to be there. It was not about being special and entitled. Between that and Kru running the 8-ball show, we all have very fond memories of the new hire experience. What is wrong with that?

There is that wonderful story from Great Lakes Airlines on the other extreme. They had a pizza party for the new hires once in Spencer, Iowa.....sort of. On day one of indoc, the instructor thought he was making an important point by handing out job applications for the local Pizza Hut across the street from the training barn. As the inquisitive looks began, he told everyone that if they didn't like it at GLA, they had another option right in front of them. Pretty classy stuff. No wonder a GLA pilot once told me that the only thing that would be left on earth after a nuclear winter was GLA and cockroaches. First impressions.

Gentlemen:

There's been sniping and pot-shots by both sides here. It hasn't been stopped, because frankly, I couldn't clearly say it violated TOS.

Enough. Stock Market Crash of 1929, Princess Diana, Arbitration, Moon Landings, and SLI: they're all history, and nothing changes it.

The thread is about the most recent vacancy bid. Keep it on-subject.

I heart APC....

We aren't talking SLI... we are talking pilot culture which is now and in the future.... and critical if you don't mind. If you prefer I'll start a UAL pilot culture thread.
