The double breasted suit can't be worn unbuttoned without looking really bad. I think that's part of the reason they chose it and is certainly why Delta pilots look uniformly consistent and professional.

While I think they've got the sharpest uniforms in the industry, I'm all about easy and as you allude to, the extra buttons add a layer of difficulty. Within reason, I couldn't care less about the uniform style. Just about anything currently in the industry works fine for me. I get the complaints about quality, to an extent. Style... not so much.

I agree. I think the double breasted suit was a way to force a non-sloppy look. It creates a professional consistency across the pilot group. For the pilots though it looks like it's more trouble and less comfortable. No worries. Leather jackets work fine.

The uniform and our appearance sure are important! Ten bucks says those dudes who parked the triple in the SFO infield looked GREAT as they boarded the jet on the other side of the globe. They probably were wearing their hats when they clipped the seawall!

And those Qatar guys who did the static run-up-jump? I'll bet they looked good too. Very snappy dressers those guys.

So you're telling me that the Navy would allow you to go to Wal-Mart and buy a pair of Khakis that may or may not match what they issue? And if you tell me that there isn't some Captain of a ship if he saw said Officer wouldn't read him the riot act, I'll just say I don't believe you!! And as far as different STYLE of uniforms, thats not what I was talking about- they were issued by the Company. Finally, if you don't think the Pax care about how you look I think you're living under a rock! ALL the group of my Friends/Business Men in my group (2 of them are 1K frequent flyers) talk about their flying experience!! What the plane looks like old or new, how the Crew looks both physically and dressed! Is this profiling, ABSOLUTELY! As far as the safety aspect, I along with you wish this drove more flying choices. Unfortunately, I don't think this crosses their mind that often otherwise, many Asian/African carriers would be out of business. They just look at the A/C, the crew and the food and see's how much it's going to cost them! They expect safety for FREE!;)

I'm also curious to see compliance levels of hat-wearing and whether or not the CP's are going to have the balls to enforce the FOM.

You can talk about how appearance has nothing to do with professionalism all day long, but any display of willful non-compliance is a symptom of a weak culture and an undisciplined mind.

Oh I'll take this bet. Most on the forums talk a big talk. I think you are going to see at least an 85% compliance with the hat. It will be that low cause the hat distro is so dorked up.
