What the plane looks like old or new, how the Crew looks both physically and dressed! Is this profiling, ABSOLUTELY! As far as the safety aspect, I along with you wish this drove more flying choices. Unfortunately, I don't think this crosses their mind that often otherwise, many Asian/African carriers would be out of business. They just look at the A/C, the crew and the food and see's how much it's going to cost them! They expect safety for FREE!;)
