I fly the PS planes, and they are very nice.
I also used to fly the islands. OGG in Aug and Sept with no wind was difficult even for the 757. 737? Good luck. Talk to the BOS CS about the 737's. They absolutely hate them. BOS to any west coast, they can't make it. Now, Put in some winter headwinds, it gets ugly fast. Yesterday I took off BOS-SFO max gross TO, full, and all the fuel we could take. Lots of head wind, and good WX in SFO, good thing we didn't have a guppy on it. As others have said, the guppy is a fine plane on routes it can handle, a 757 it isn't. I also agree that we should have updated the planes and put new interiors in. Oh well, no one asked me. BTW, the oldest plane now at UAL is a PS 757. I just flew it last week, a fine machine with all the updates. Nose number 5302. Our second 757 delivered in 1989. (#1 left last year, right after they painted it.) Now a PS plane with winglets and a new interior, and I suppose one of the planes staying. Again, if the argument about not keeping old plane is they cost a lot, why keep this one? Makes no sense. |
I've done Bos-SFO several times this winter with no probs in an -800. Same with west coast to Ogg, KOA, Ito. No wt restrictions either.

I think the 321 neo makes a lot of sense. Given that we already have sims, training program, and pilot, why not get some neo's? Maybe such an order is upcoming.
Our load factors are amazing. We could use all 40 tomorrow and get rid of a mess of 50 seat RJs in the process, or add routes. More seats in markets means more revenue, so I guess that's what kills this idea right from the start. Plus, our long suffering pax would have to make the step up from a 50 seat to an EMB 170, a Guppy or an Airbus. So, there's the second nail in the coffin. Just when you think it can't get mo' worser, it gets mo' worser. If I were a young buck looking for a job today, this place would be way down my list of picks. Hopefully someone will turn this place around. |
Are the A-350's next? Jeffy doesn't seem to like the Airbi.
