BTW -- I'm furloughed United with recall rights -- hope to be able to stay put at SWA with those kind of work rules.
You're saying that if you're on reserve at SW and you pick up a trip (ON your reserve days), you get paid for that trip over and above the reserve guarantee? By picking up the trip, you're making yourself unavailable for reserve duty. Why would you get paid for the trip you pick up AND for being on reserve (when you're no longer on reserve).

Like Dave said, it's always been that way at UAL (and every other major airline that I know of). Picking up trips on reserve just gives a person more control over their schedule which makes commuting WAY more tolerable.

Sorry. Re-reading the contract, I believe you are correct.

I think he was talking about picking up on your day off? It goes on top of guarantee.I beleieve Spirit was the same, but at L-UAL it has always been anything you pick up just goes toward the guarantee...

Although I just remembered, with the new contract, if you work on a day off (VDO), you get 150% of which 50% of that IS Add Pay (on top of guarantee)...

No thats not what I'm saying. If I pick up an open time trip on a day off it is paid separately from my reserve guarantee -- extra money over and above my reserve guarantee of 6 TFP per day or what I fly, whichever is greater. I may have been mistaken on the previous post about how it works at United. Please clarify -- if you pick up an open time trip at United on a day off and you have NOT exceeded your reserve guarantee block does that trip get applied to your reserve guarantee or is it paid separate? Thanks for the clarification.

In addition, at SWA unfortunately Reserves cannot self assign a trip. I think at United it was called aggressive pick-up back in 08 when I was there. You could pick an open trip up I think 28 prior to show time and that would be your reserve trip. Kind of gave you some say in what you flew on reserve. Is that still how it works?

Aggressive pickup window opens at 11AM local base time every day for open time pickup by reserves for trips the following day and it is usually a mad scramble at EWR to grab any descent trips, (non-LGA). First come first serve.

At United we aren't paid for any trips on Reserve until exceeding min pay guarantee (except per diem and any international override). Picking up a trip on a day off sometimes gets premium pay but there ain't much of that on the FO side.

I pick up a lot of trips in order to massage my schedule so I get extra days at home. Still, last month I was trying to exceed guarantee, picking up anything I could, and I was still 26 minutes short of MPG. They got a lot of blood out of this stone in March and only had to pay me per diem for it.
