This is absolutely unreal. We should know our vacation for the year before the year begins, like by Oct for 2014. Ok. We gave that one away in the UPA for some inconceivable reason. Now we're nearly a third of the way into the year and we don't even know what weeks we may or may not have off for the summer. If you're not one of those people who goes on vacation solo, plans have to coordinated with other people in your life that work, go to school, etc. Unbelievable.

After over three decades of vacation bidding awards this is the strangest award I have ever received. Somehow the program decided from all my choices I wanted four seven day periods all in a row, 28 days all at once.
Looking at me bid I have no idea how the algorithm did that.
I did get the two week block I wanted but the rest is not. But it's probably my fault and since it's in the heart of summer a trade will probably work out.
Personally I believe this vacation bidding program is a piece of cow's dung.
Any one in United management listening?

Update On Annual Vacation
The following report is from the System Schedule Committee's Manpower Subcommittee
As most of you are aware, the annual vacation bid award results the company published last night “have issues” (to put it mildly). It will come as no surprise that United’s IT department has once again dropped the ball in providing the pilot group the tools to exercise our contractual rights.
The SSC is actively engaged with the company to determine the scope of the problems with the award and how to correct them. Please hold on to your questions about the erroneous awards until we have completed that process. We are all frustrated with the company’s inability to handle what should be, ostensibly, a relatively simple process that is of critical importance to all pilots. We will ensure you are provided with more information on the issues and the corrective actions as it becomes available. In the meantime, rest assured that this abrogation of your contract will not be allowed to stand.

JH has been very ineffective of getting our contractual rights. He does get letters written explaining why he's being beaten by management. It's time JH hits the road.
