No disrespect, but how in the heck did she get hired in 98 with no ATP........and I'm not talking written test either......?

I know guys with 3000 plus of fighter time that didn't get an interview with no black marks against them.

9/98 all the EEOC crap was well done. UAL had been free to hire/not hire who they wanted. Heck, my new hire class was either military or civilian with high time. In my case, all were males, not that that matters. And they all had their ATP mins at least a decade prior to the start date.

Seriously, I'm curious....

ATP wasn't required at the time is what I understand. She came up through flight instructing then flew non sced freight on the 27. Interviewed with UAL and got the job on the 37-200 as an F/O.

I've met a couple of other women who were hired without an ATP.

I will be coming back this summer as well. I have heard, but not read, that there is a grace period (three months?) that a company must give you after finishing mil-duty before you must report back.

I might go back to UCH right away, or I might take a short break. Wanted the right info before I asked someone in I-T and was given the wrong answer.

I'd recommend pulling the contract off of the ALPA website... It has all the details on returning from LOA and MIL LOAs... If it ain't in writing they can switch their story.

The return timing is USERRA law not contract. You can return while on terminal leave or delay until well after you're done.

There's more reading you should do in Section 12, bet here's the meat:

12-D Military Leave (“MLOA”)

12-D-1 Unless required by law, a Pilot may not exceed six (6) consecutive years of military leave. This six (6) year limit shall not commence until all furloughed Pilots are offered recall.

12-D-2 Notwithstanding Section 11-A-4, a Pilot shall accrue vacation for the first ninety (90) consecutive days of military leave. Thereafter, he shall have his vacation accrual reduced by one-twelfth (1/12) for each full Bid Period he is on a military leave of absence in excess of ninety (90) days.

12-D-3 Return from Military Leave

Notwithstanding the requirements of Section 8-E-6-f and Section 12-H, the following shall apply to a Pilot who returns from a military leave of absence:

12-D-3-a If a Pilot was displaced pursuant to Section 8 while on military leave, when he returns to Active Service with the Company, in addition to the option in Section 12-D-3-b, he shall be permitted to displace to any Category that his seniority entitles him.

12-D-3-b A Pilot returning to Active Service with the Company shall be eligible to be awarded a position in any Category as follows:

12-D-3-b-(1) The Pilot shall make his request no later than ten (10) days after first notifying the Company of his intention to return to work or the date he is scheduled to report for training, whichever is first;

12-D-3-b-(2) The Category to be awarded is one in which the Pilot’s seniority would have entitled him to fill during the vacancy bidding process while he was on military leave; and

12-D-3-b-(3) The returning Pilot shall have any training freeze associated with such vacancy commence on the date that the vacancy was awarded to a junior Pilot.

If you have been gone for any length of time you will go to redoc..basic indoc with other returnees and new hires. Class is two weeks. Week one is Tues-Sat week two is Tuesday-Friday. Lot of admin, uniform, ipad, stuff to do. It was good since things have changed from when we left..both sides...and your 3 hours/day clock starts clicking. Youll stay in the double tree across the street from TK in Denver

USERRA(Uniformed Service Employment/Re-Employment Rights Act) rules:

Service of 180 or More Days
An application for reemployment must be submitted to the employer no later than 90 days after completion of a person’s military service.

Here's the info I received so far. It is from Bill K at the training center. He's been very helpful so far. May classes are limited to 2 for the indoc. I am about 40 days out and he is putting me in classes and training for the aircraft as of today. I'll update anything useful as the time goes by.
