Some of our 05-08 hires from the CAL side hit the RJ wave just right. They hired on as RJ FOs as the majors began shedding routes and upgraded quickly because the movement was happening for them. From there, they got on with CAL and some even made 737 Captain quickly. A career with no stagnation is hard for them to comprehend. I guess SoCal never spent time on RJ jumpseats talking to guys that came along later like you. Welcome, glad you are here....beers are still on me.

Just to add to jetblast77...him and I were at the same company a week apart and now we are here a week apart. When I came here I had 6380 hours of sic in a 145. I was 7 plus years there so just to break it down I flew on average 911 hours a year for my highest grossing year of 44k. That's life. I never complained, just lived within my means and saved knowing that rj flying wasn't the end. Also installed floors on the side for extra coin. Just finished my probe year and had the best time flying with you guys. Timing is everything in this field.

Your example above indicates that someone started an engine at the gate, again while not being paid. Who friggin does that? Not sure what correlation would go with that but if I'm starting one at the gate, I damn well better be getting paid for it as I won't be doing it unless I am.

Looks like I'll never have the pleasure of flying with Captain Booksmart as I doubt I'll ever transfer to the school bus but you keep up the good work, we're all counting on you !!

Quote: Just an FYI.... On the 320 fleet it is common to release the brakes after arrival before leaving the cockpit (and verifying all wheels chocked) to promote faster brake cooling when required. Once in a while, the next crew won't get the brakes reset before the agent closes the door. This generates an inadvertent out time. I flew with a guy recently that was written up over this issue by the ramp tower / ramp crew for not following SOP and therefore endangering them. He got called in to the CPO over it. He explained the hot brakes issue and the fact that the agent closed the door without checking with him. They were satisfied that his actions were not deliberate. SOP is SOP. Follow it or get it changed.

I believe the incident in question was an APU inop. Hence starting an engine at the gate with the brakes set.
Yup that was it. Started #1 at the gate due to no APU. Brakes set per SOP. Ground crew forgot to disconnect PC air and it ingested in the engine. 3-5 million. Flight crew got two weeks off with full pay pending FAA investigation. No action taken because they hadn't violated any SOP. Had they popped the brakes to get on the clock, they would have been violated.

The funny part is Angry Elf probably doesn't even realize that all that brake popping most likely doesn't result in an extra dollar in his pocket. In order to get leg over, you have to end the month with Line Value over PTC. With all the soft time, cancels, etc, it's rare for that to occur. So he's exposing himself and his FO to certificate action for literally no reason except he likes to think of himself as braver than the weak-willies out there that actually operate the airplane in a safe and legal manner. Hope he steps on his d*%k doing it. I apologize to all you new FO's who are going to be put in the uncomfortable situation of having your ticket on the line by this tough guy trying to make an extra $1.50

New F/O's or old F/O's, you aren't paid to be a shrinking violet. Speak up when you see something that isn't right. Usually standing up for yourself is all it takes. If not, the threat of a sole source fsap report gets the point across.

Good grief you must be a barrel of fun to fly with. I'm going to get certificate action for releasing the brakes when push is imminent? Since when does the FAA chase people down based on when the brakes are released? When I show up to the aircraft they're released, will I get violated for that too? As for those poor F/O's stuck flying with me I'll bet more of them would rather do a pairing with me than a Stuff Shirt, sanctimonious Check Airman like yourself.

Guess we're done here unless you want to make up some more scary camp fire stories for us kiddies.
