Maggot and Dung Beatle hardly seemed complimentary. Just a guess though. I wish I knew the origin of some of these. Usually this stuff is born of affection for the plane. Maybe they mean "maggot" in an endearing way.

Who said not to make waves? Someone during indoc?? Calling a Houston check airman a scab will make waves. Referring to an airplane as a guppy will not make waves.

Its aviation tradition and history to use nicknames. I've noticed I've never heard anybody complain that United painted "Dreamliner" on the side of the 787 and I've heard LCAL guys call it just that.

Aircraft Nicknames

Here are a few choices for the Boeing Seven Thirty Seven. You let us know which one you'd like to use?

Boeing 737: Tin mouse, Maggot, Pocket Rocket Socket, FLUF (Fat Little Ugly ********er), Light Twin, Baby Boeing, Fat Freddy, Guppy, Thunder Guppy (series 1/200), Yuppy Guppy, Super Guppy (series 3/4/500), Pig, Bobby (BOeing BaBY), Rudder Rotor, Fat Albert, Dung Beatle.

I'm betting anybody who ever would say that its "baby talk" to only refer to the actual letter and number designation only has also referred to airplanes by their nicknames in the past.

Its also part of United's history to refer to it as the Guppy.

Ah the hypocrisy.....

Dear Lord! I'm 44 and thought I'd be about 4th or 5th overall in age seniority... and I'm now sitting #4 out of 4 who have chimed in so far. Well, I hope there are lots of Gup.... er, 737s in the class! Looks like there will be anyways, but I'll be fine if there aren't.

What would be an "unofficial" old age limit at UAL these days? I'm a very young 57 and wonder if any of your classmates are at or even above my age?

I've see a lot of guys saying that they "deferred" and put off going to class lately. Do you guys understand seniority?

Even a few numbers can make a huge difference in a career.

I guess if you had some other commitment, it's honorable that you delayed.

I flew with a guy once who was the bottom pilot at UAL for 7 years. One more number and he would have been out of work.
