Default Hostile work environment?

While we wait on new DAL threads, here's one for the sake of discussion.

Let's say we're on duty and deadheading on a company aircraft with (free) streaming entertainment, in uniform, and in public view. Using a company supplied iPad, you logon to the company supplied streaming entertainment and select an action movie.

Having never seen the movie you're interested in the plot development, when suddenly, a rape-ish forced sex scene with extended full fontal nudity and "simulated" rough sex ensues. Interested in the set design, lighting, and depth of field used in the shot, you can't look away.

About that time, a flight attendant taps you on the shoulder to offer a drink when you both share a moment realizing what's on the screen.

Have you:

1.) Created a hostile work environment for her? Would the paying passenger do the same if they were watching the movie instead?

2.) Both been subject to a hostile work environment created by UAL's presentation of soft-core porn while on duty.

3.) No big deal.

Discuss..........

It would probably be wise to use company supplied material for company supplied material.(Not passenger material)

What does it matter? The he-said-she-said around the mahogany table is always a loser.

However, it is company supplied material as they loaded it onto their entertainment system what they deem appropriate material for semi-public viewing. WRT to a coworker, she initiated her presence within your static personal bubble. As a professionally trained employee she is fully aware of this dynamic. Unless you forcefully held the screen up to her face saying, so waddya think? I'm not sure what could be done.

I would be more concerned about the litigious parent who says you irreparably harmed their child especially since they know the employee's company has very deep pockets and that company can be easily identified because you were "in uniform, and in public view" (as you say) and presumably know better (the lawyer will say) than to expose minors to porn, regardless that the scene was sudden and unexpected. People love to sue big companies.

You want folly? Here's folly...

You're in uniform as described and she sees something even tamer than described and is offended. She's probably got a case.

Next situation. You're in uniform watching full on gonzo porn and you hold the screen up to her and say "how about me and you get some of this on?" No case. Why? Because you are a UAL pilot DHing on Delta. You cannot create a hostile work environment if you don't work together.

Everyone feel better about the folly that is "being offended".

So to re-cap, everyone is a victim!

BTW, none of what I described happened, just food for thought. The movie however is real and is being streamed onboard UAL aircraft. Aside from the porn, there are enough beheadings to make ISIS proud.

Working together with dignity and respect my fellow co-workers.

Just to be difficult:

I think most if not all the films on the plane "have been edited for content and formatted to fit this screen."

I think even the streaming ones have been edited down for the general public (PG-13 maybe).

Is that what you think or have you watched all the films? The point of this thread is that there ARE films that are firmly R rated. The film I watched contained violent sex scene with full nudity, no way I'd want my kids watching that.

The company has a history of disciplinary action for employees who have had objectionable material in their possession at work, namely girly magazines. The video streamed in view of employees on duty as "entertainment" is far more dark and explicit. Oh the hilarious irony
