Get real. Not going to happen. In 5 years most new hires will be lucky to be RSV WB FO's commuting to SFO.

UAL could grow to a 17,000 pilot airline in five years.

Only if you merge with your regionals......

Or they all speak Chinese as a first language!

The 15,000 pilot number is not meant as a joke and has been stated by the managers at the training center---which, by it's very nature, makes it suspect as a "training center rumor."

That said, UAL plans to hire 1000 more pilots than needed for straight retirements in the next 18 months. Maintain that tempo for just a little while and UAL is suddenly at 15,000. Working strictly from the publicly announced fleet plan the "airline" (UA + UAX) is not growing dramatically but mainline is adding airframes while UAX is parking aircraft. There is definitely a shift in flying in progress while the "end state" plan admittedly remains cloaked in secrecy.

It appears the newbies have gone from drinking the coolaid to drowning in the grog bowl.

Either way, are any of these conjectures based on facts?

Of corse not. And that's the problem with this thread.

Anything could happen (good or bad). Anybody making plans based on conjecture will learn a hard lesson one way or the other.

I'm planning on enjoying myself at the job I've dreamed about for almost 25 years, watching from the outside. I'm planning on flying my fanny off in cool airplanes with "United" on the outside. Anything else is just gravy....
