I said it before, and here it is again, if you do the recommended technique of TK you will consistently have much hotter brakes than manually braking, the qualifier is that runway length is not an issue. If you want cooler brakes or have a quick turn, such as OGG, DO NOT USE AUTO BRAKES! If you're not worried about the temps, go ahead and use auto brakes.

I would never ever use 25 flaps on the 767-300, unless you need it for the gust factor. That tail is just too close to the ground during the flare.

767-300's all have carbon brakes, 757-200 Pratt's all have steel brakes, with the noted nose numbers 02-12 having very touchy brakes.
Use flaps 25 all the time with no issue. Just don't pull the power early, which is common sense.

Not an issue for me any more, but if you were flying with me, you would not be doing 25. TK will say use 25, mainly because it uses less fuel, right up to the moment of the first tail strike, then they'll say, "No, that's not what we said!"

That's good advice anytime for a 767....

Well I guess you'd be flying every leg if we flew together if you're going to dictate how I fly the jet.

Would you call professional standards in that case and complain about the flaps 25 vs. 30 thing with him? How far do you think that would go? For you to refuse to fly any legs over this is ridiculous.

I did a flaps 25 vs. 30 landing the other day. If the Captain had requested 30, I would have done that. Dave's explanation is good enough for me since he is doing what he feels is the safest thing to do. There is no argument to the contrary that what he is doing is less safe. He is the Captain. Not you.

You are picking a battle when there shouldn't be one.

I wouldn't do anything above. Relax. I would simply say you got the legs, I've got the radios. I'm happy to help with whatever else you need. Simple as that.

I've never avoided a capt, never gone to the CPO about anyone, and never have gone to pro stans. The FM states flaps 25 is now the norm (looked it up this morning actually), and a flaps 25 is perfectly safe.

If you want to dictate how I fly the jet because it is something unsafe or against SOP I'll gladly change. To dictate how I fly the jet because you simply "don't like it" yet is SOP is a whole different issue.

I'm not against flap 30 whatsoever. Landing at ORD on the north side and getting off asap at north port is a perfect example of a flaps 30, autobrakes 3 situation. But to blatantly use flaps 30 always on a dry 11k runway (which is not IAW with the FM or TK) is not prudent IMO.

It's called the crew concept. Try it sometime. I'm sure you have the skills to roll a F30 landing.

Oh it is? From his post I didn't notice any part of "crew." Thanks for the tip.

The crew meaning, if it makes part of the crew uncomfortable, and you could accomplish the task another way within the confines of the fom/fm, then you shouldn't do it.

I'm afraid it's an argument you wouldn't win as a first officer, inside or outside of the cockpit. Arguing against Captain's authority is a tough hill to climb. But go ahead and give it a shot. I'm sure it will work out for you...Scrappy.
