Reserve is certainly way better than it could haves ever been at Lcal but I'll stop short saying it "rocks". As someone pointed out the main angst is the way the company is abusing their ability to build SC on a whim with no rhyme or reason. If they want 8 den 320 f/os on short call for 1 day and 6 sfo 747 c/a on sc for 2 day fine. But make it consistent.
A scheduler should not have the ability to manipulate it based on what side of the bed they woke up on for no reason. Reserve is reserve but the company should ALWAYS be held accountable for their actions.... Just like we are
Well said!

The thread is titled "Fixes to Reserve", not "OMG Reserve is GREAT"

Some appear to have lost sight of that. Perhaps we ought to start another thread where those so enamored can extoll the virtues of reserve duty? Here are some suggestions for the title:

Unnecessary and Arbitrary Short Calls; Please Sir may I have another?

F the FIFO! or,

We don't need no stinkin' FIFO or,

Can you hustle to the airport? (when they call several guys for the same trip and you all haul a$$ to the drome but are then released)

Free Field Standby's are great!

BTW, it really WAS 4 to push, not to ops despite what you may have read. I used to test it routinely and was never admonished.

Slightly off Topic, ...... but I am on reserves!

How do I view the entire "Master Schedule" for the month? With my SC/LSC double days it has move the viewable portion of the February schedule from 30 Dec to 25 Feb only. As an FNG I have attempted to push every numbered button on the screen to see the last few days with no Luck! Usually F7 and F8 slide the dates on other screens. I can view it in Crew Comp but not on Master Schedule.

Any assist would be greatly appreciated.

Put in a date instead of the bid month. Leave the bid month blank and to its right fill in a more recent dd, mm, yy in those blanks. This will show the master schedule starting from that date.

All you need to do is place your cursor in the block next to the last visible day. If you hit F8 it will show the rest of the month. To then go back, place the cursor in the box next to the first day on the screen and hit F7.

And that's F8 and F7 on the screen. Not on a PC keyboard

There was some discussion earlier regarding commuting while on long call. The contract says that once converted to short call you are no longer on call until the short call assignment starts. So where does this come into play? When you finish an actual flying assignment and revert back to long call for several more days but want to go home?

I commute to Phoenix. I can sit Long Call at home but short calls mean I have to hop a plane and get into position. After a flying assignment, I head for home. I change the recording on my voice mail that if this is the crew desk I am on a plane and will respond to the voice mail when I land. Of course, after a flying assignment from an International trip, that can't use me for a while due to the UPA.
