Default Sick policy

I don't call in sick unless I'm sick, but I'm just curious what the policy/culture is at UAL? Is there a maximum number of times per year, Dr. note required, etc.?

1. You're crazy.

2. 5 sick calls in a rolling 12 month period triggers a CPO call and entry into the lowest level of the company reliability program.

3. Dr note may be required for any sick calls over a company holiday or around vacation.

1st time I ever called in sick I got a call from the CPO. (During the "pilot pushing" regime in IAH). Hope that has changed

Not sure when that happened but I've personally never had anyone call me in the last 5 or so years I've been in IAH and I've called in sick 2-3 times per year on average.

During the "prohibition on 737 capt/crew calling in sick.....2013 CPO sent out a message that any 737 capts calling in sick would require a doctors note...period. Definitely "pilot pushing"

And yet shortly thereafter they displaced. Sounds about right.

Almost as brilliant a piece of leadership as the "Takeoff with the snow on the wing and it'll all blow off!" Blastmail.

Both may be safely filed under the "Things that may be safely ignored." category.

This isn't grade school and we're not children. If you don't feel well enough to go to work, you drop a dime. Period. If confused, refer to the regs.

5 hours per month accrual SL. What a joke.

All of the rest is just chaff. Don't fall for it, don't even consider it. Don't be a Loopner.

(I realize that I am coming across as a condescending sphincter, but years of flying with sniffling, bubonic, infectious, pestilential cowards has decimated my diplomacy)

Totally agree on all points. In addition, UAL had an annual "shift" in sick call policy to the negative, that I doubt was ever enforced for more than a couple of weeks.

I completely agree. Nothing worse than someone who comes to work knowingly sick and then gives it to you. I'm so tired of flying with senior guys bragging about 1000 hours in their sick bank as they hack away with a cough.

Meanwhile I got no OJI rollover boost in the sick bank with the last contract (because they cut out OJI for new hires back in '04) and struggle because 5 hours a month won't build up Jack.

My biggest heartburn about the current contract.
