Different philosophies I guess. All of the answers to our questions are in some regulation or rule book somewhere, so I guess that would leave forums for less constructive topics.

My question kind've still stands though; why such a long lag? Everyone's bid is input into a computer. Hit the enter button and see the results. Just trying to understand the why.

Well, headed back to reading my contract. Just trying to balance my time, between learning the jet, CBTs, reserve rules, what not to trust the company with, all my ALPA emails, company emails, etc... I hope the firehose lessens up a bit after year one is over.

I hate titles...
The lag is due to the fact that our PBS system is hooked up to a Tandy 1000 computer system. There is absolutely no reason that it should take this long with today's technology.

Anyone want to venture a wag as to how much time the SSC spends reviewing the bids before they are published?

Zip?

I'm probably alone in this but I personally feel that monthly bid awards should be out in the first week of the month prior. No one should have to wait until 1 &1/2 weeks prior to know what they are doing the next month. The company has already sold tickets, and the schedule should be just as firm at that point as it would be 2 weeks later. That's always ****ed me off. I've brought it up before but I seem to be the only crazy guy who thinks I should be able to commit to things for next month before the 18th.

I say the same about vacation. Who else does it this way. There's no reason not to run the same vacation cycles in the Fall for vacation from Jan to Dec. No one should have to wait until 2 months before Summer to know if you've got some summer vacation. And while there are some reasons given for the timing of the PBS run, there are none for the vacation run.

Actually, you have a lot more support for this than you think. Something we all need to run up our LECs and get fixed. I guarantee, 90% of the FOs are sick of waiting until the very wee hours of the 17th to get their sked.

If it cost the company $1 more to give us our schedules a week earlier, they'd screw us and save the dollar.
