787 displacements.... finally coming?

While the Houston economy has been stagnant overall and the oil industry has declined year over year, passenger emplanements have grown slightly for the Houston airport system from June 2015
United is yielding domestic traffic to competitors American, Southwest, and spirit. Routes that were previously served by 737's have been served by 70 and 76 seat aircraft. United has been yielding long haul flying to its code share partners Lufthansa and ASA are flying super and large wide body aircraft to connect star alliance passengers to united's hub.
What is worse is LAX, not over staffed but United marketing and operations are yielding market share to competitors and code share partners.
Houston is the #3 and LAX is the #2 O and D markets and that traffic is being ignored or put on the back burner.

The 787s in turn are being used to open new and very lucrative markets in SFO. How is that bad?

What does any of that have to do with the 787 base? The routes that the 787s were flying are going to same sized 767s and bigger 777s. Except LOS, and airlines around the world are bailing from LOS due to currency issues.

Hopefully it's all about the money metric.
We are giving allot of customers away to competitors out of Houston. Some of that traffic is being re-routed through Dallas to AA and DAL, but we are giving some of that away through HOU and MIA as well. The Latin America markets have great PRASM's. Hate to see that money going to Jet Blue, SWA, and AA.

I am not clear about the exact metrics they use to determine managerial effectiveness, but other divisions are actually studying flight ops to determine how they do it and it is 'the management of.........us' not just pilot reliability. These metrics have soared since the days of the gross mismanagement of Fred Abbott.

Let the business decisions actually revolve around the BUSINESS and not about whether it will hurt people's egos.

I would expect to see the IAH 787 FO's slide over to IAH 777 FO. I believe everyone has the seniority to do that. The plan was to add 50 777 FO's to IAH. The latest vacancy filled 38 of the 50 to cover the two LHR flights from IAH. Looks like 12 displacements to 777 would meet the staffing plan.

Why would anyone expect a 787 guy to bd the 777 and incur the 2 year freeze? It was no surprise that none bid out!
Also I think a few are senior enough to bid a Capt slot in SFO on the A320 or 737. The 756 CAPT went junior last round to around 8400ish....
Happy Bumping!
