If you have or are retiring from the military then you won't be dropping mil leave. So, United doesn't have to worry about that with you. If you are separating after your initial pilot training commitment you won't be getting a call from United because they are automatically making a lot of assumptions. Those being:

1. You will be going to the guard or reserves.

2. You'll be dropping up to 5 years of mil leave.

Therefore, they will not be calling you for an interview because they don't want to deal with mil leave. In my book that is discrimination. It might be legal (not sure if it is or not), but that doesn't mean that it isn't discrimination.

Kind of a shame because I really liked the recruitment event and was hoping to go to United. Now I'm just upset because I spent $1,000 going to that event.

What about those of us who aren't planning on going to the guard or reserves? Expect to be discriminated against purely based off of how much time you've served in the military.
I actually know Bill K. and quite frankly I am sure he would find this post both offensive and factually untrue!!

None of us are happy with what is happening with hiring, but to come to this conclusion is ridiculous.

What actually happened is:

This doesn't include the stuff that he did before the recruiting event to try and balance back out the experience points in the application (fix the formula that was passed down to him) to give a guy with 8 years flying experience in the military a chance to get the points that a guy flying for 8 years commercially was getting. I am not trying to say the points are perfect today, but I can tell you they are drastically better than they were several years ago at balancing military and commercial experience.

The lack of a "Fleet Plan" since the 737 order delay/cancel has had, and continues to have, a drastically negative effect across the airline. Pilot Hiring has gone into basically replacement hiring only. We all hope that something happens soon (Paris airshow order announcement?) and we can get back to the kind of hiring that will make us all happy.

When we do get back to hiring, I hope you get a call. I think you will find that you will be glad you spent the $1000 when that call comes.

Absolutely NOT true. Both guys I interviewed with were seperating Air Force. One guy had a reserve job already and the other had one in the works.

This might be one the dumbest posts I've read in a long time!!
            So far from the truth...

Everybody that attended the recruitment event from my USAFR unit has received an interview invite and/or been hired.

Gents, I debated for a long time whether or not I would post the information that I did. I stand by my statements because my data comes from an extremely reliable source.

I've left a couple of details out to protect the guilty that I think would account for the situations you are mentioning.

If United is your #1 then I wish you the best of luck and hope you get called. If you're not sure and are applying everywhere and happen to be separating then I caution you against dropping $1,000 to go visit with United. Again, I got this information from a very reliable source and am not posting my opinion. I'm posting what I was told from my source.

Are you a journalist? Need to protect your source from this "reliable" information?

One thing your source is guilty of is feeding you full of crap!

The first 2 guys hired after the event were young guys who hadn't retired. You're wrong and your source is wrong.

Plenty of recently separated guys and guys with guard jobs in my newhire class and every week in training that I have bumped into. FALSE!

I will say that while reaching out to MIL guys is great, having all the airlines in one place is better than boutique events. There are a lot of airlines out there hiring and t would take 10k and all of your free time to do multiple events like these.

I think i read on a different thread Delta did something like what your saying and got sued. I doubt United would do the same after seeing the aftermath.

Two guys from my Guard unit with 10 years to go for retirement with no plans to leave just finished IOE at United. Your anonymous source is not reliable in the least.
