For a guy who dropped a chunk of change to attend the Vet event and didn't get a call, Snaplock does not come across as someone trying to burn bridges by starting flame wars. But the guys who keep hurling put downs at him come across poorly, and I don't see why his post has provoked such a visceral reaction. Snaplock's unnamed source may very well be a TK PI who thought he overheard BK talking on his cell phone in the next stall over in the Men's Room. Until there is some proof in hiring stats or independent confirmation, it is yet just another random forum rumor. Even if it is ultimately false, if I were applying today I'd certainly want to know of the possibility.

I'm confident it is a fact that we've been hiring lots and lots of guys with reserve commitments the last few years. I'm not at all confident that what Snaplock said is true, and hope he is proven wrong from here on out. If he is wrong though, as of yet I don't think he'd owe anyone an apology. On the other hand, would any of the spear chuckers offer one up if he somehow is proven right?

AND with that I'm going to leave this discussion. My intent was to provide some data that might be useful to the bro network. Instead I guess people just want to burry their heads in the sand and assume that nothing like this could ever happen.

I don't have a vendetta against United or anyone associated with them. In fact I think United would be a great place to work.

If anyone thinks for one minute that just because United is a Fortune 100 company that they wouldn't do anything like what I've said they are doing then you might want to go look up some of the litigation that has occurred on this subject. Delta is currently being sued and American recently lost a lawsuit over stuff like this. So, that right there is two of the other legacies that have been caught.

I truly hope I am wrong about all of this. Unfortunately, I think the root cause of all of this is reservists playing the system and engaging in unethical practices that really tick off the airlines that they are employed with. Perhaps we should start policing that more?

Best of luck to everyone waiting for the call!

I don't think many are saying it could never happen, in fact I believe there was a time not too long ago they weren't hiring very many mil guys and rumor was that someone from HR got let go for that. What we're saying is that through our networks we know many people who are getting hired that fit your demographic. I personally know 2 from the last week of interviews.

I think you're burying your head in the sand here, for what motivations I don't know, and maybe believing that since you haven't gotten the call and you heard this rumor, it must be true. It's not. It's factually incorrect.

I'm guessing that was rumor only.

Keep in mind, when the pie chart/demographic came out that only 30-ish% of newhires were military, it was when there was the 737 training Charlie Foxtrot and it was taking 6-8-10 months from CJO-class.

At that time, DAL was a matter of weeks. I'm guessing many of those pilots had multiple offers. OR, interviewed/CJO'd at UAL and got an offer somewhere else later that put them in class sooner way than UAL would.

I know more than a couple that year that did JUST THAT.

Then some rumor flies that UAL "isn't hiring many mil guys"

For anecdotal evidence, anyone can go on CCS and look at the staffing list. There is a not insignificant number of post merger new hires on mil leave until 2019 or beyond. As a current reservist, I agree that this is unethical abuse of the system and not the intent of USERRA protection.

Pretty much everyone at my Unit comes in on their days off and only comes to a few select scheduled drills per year. I haven't showed up as MIL in the past few years with exception of deployments, so I don't think the staffing list is a good representation at all. With pay so much better at the majors, we are having issues staffing weekly flying schedules because no one is willing to drop MIL with exception of a couple.

Same at my unit. Very hard to get participation at the SQ and I VERY rarely MIL drop a trip. I simply pre-load MIL before PBS runs for dates I know I HAVE to be there (usually 1 or 2 days of UTA a month and no more) so that my schedule is built around those days. My other MIL days are on days off. If a guy is senior enough, he doesn't ever have to take MIL cause he just bid around the MIL days, but I don't have that capability (deployments excluded of course). And when I do mil drop, it's a money looser 2.6 to 1.

By the way, I was forced to deploy during my probation...is that considered an abuse by one that is looking at the staffing page?

...man I wish there were folks on here that work with United's hiring and recruitment team. Only if those folks spoke up...

We're not talking about the majority that play by the rules. We're talking about the ones who toe the line, sometimes unethically and make it harder for the rest of us. Im right there with you, mil leave cost me about $25k in pay in 2015 from a rough wag. Our squadron isnt just short guys coming in, we're short guys even wanting to apply.

Mobilization, you seriously think thats what we're talking about? Its the guys that get hired, finish training, then drop 5+ years of voluntary full time orders so they can go back and get a full time retirement. That is NOT why USERRA was written.

Prior Enlisted? Why didn't you say so at the top of the stack. I'm prior Enlisted myself and know of several UAL Pilots who were prior enlisted.
United hires prior enlisted. It's been a great ride for me; Honorably Discharged USMC 1973 - E4 Corporal. Now I'm months away from retirement at UAL after nearly 32 years. Not bad for a former Marine Corporal Eh! Semper Fi!
