Don't mistake the current airline environment for the reality of what this job can become. And it happens with surprising rapidity when the axe starts to fall!
When the company releases it's staffing it gives you a sneak peek at the month ahead. Things don't seem to be changing much with these sneak peeks. I think about 50-55% in IAH on the B756 might get you a crappy (Clevelend-like) line with sit times, and early AM shows, and the like.

The real issue is the airline pulling the flying out of IAH B756 and pulling the rug out from the entire base. You don't know what to believe, the fleet plan, the monthly plan, the ...fill in the blank. So many high quality trips have left IAH. Do they come back with Houston economy and energy sector coming back? How about Houston-Paris? Smizek killed that for really no-good-reason.

I wonder what Smizek is up to these days...........Now that's a thread drift.

However, there used to be something called career progression. Reserves might get a junior assignment and move up in a year to a year and a half.

As a new hire, I was on reserve for 4 months. As a B756 Captain, 5 years later still on reserve.

Nowhere.

This ten character rule really screws up snappy rejoinders.

That's a bummer about IAH! The 756 flying in DEN is awesome!

Another reserve question and making sure I'm reading the contract right.

Your first day of Reserve in on long-call with a starting report time of 1000 unless you get notified and acknowledge the change by 1500 the day prior.

Correct?

Correct?
1500 is when you have to check when you are actually on long call. 1800 is the time for the last day off before reserve.

1000 is the earliest assignment start time to show for a trip or FSB or to be on telephone SC. If no assignment was on the schedule at 1800 on the last day off then long call telephone availability begins at 0001.
