I think if UPS could have gotten 777's they would have bought them. The fact that they can get the 74's right now, probably at a good price is most likely the reason for the purchase.

UPS orders 14 747-8's and 4 767's. !
I think the announcement made today only covered the 14 options. Doesn't look like they purchased 14 more above the options. Close but no cigar!

Options and orders are not really the same. I get your drift, but I really did not think they would exercise those options. I think this is very good news for the airline. Adding 7 767’s(3 used 4 new) is also very good. It’s actually nice to see this place growing for a change.

Agreed! Just don’t look at the IPA retirement projection without a kleenex 😂

Question

(28)747-8’s over the next 5 years, (7)767’s, hiring 300 a year for the foreseeable future. The next question is, will an arbitrator consider this A good enough plan and allow Brown to subcontract? If so for how long?

Of course the arbitrator will push the first plan presented, it will be good enough. Its how we got a TA, the arbitrator thought it was "good enough".

If an arbitrator pushes either side too hard, they lose future arbitration work (aka .. earnings)

The availability of 777s slots is there in about 18 months, which is at least the timeframe required to introduce a new fleet type. The volume the -8 carries along with the reliability guarantees likely tipped the scale in favor of more -8s.

Don't confuse an arbitratior with a mediator. Arbitration was never offered.

True. Different process, But I hear they run in the same circles.

Not in this business.

Mediators are federal employees. Arbitrators are private practice and as you suspect, their careers depend on not getting either side too upset.
