I consider myself very fortunate to have one of the best aviation jobs in the world. I have helped several people get hired here, and will continue to do so because I believe in this job. People like you Boiler, always post positive, precise, factual information. Everyone should evaluate your posts with weight.

I only have a handful of reservations about this job, the MD replacement being one. I am proud to be part of this pilot group and to be represented by the IPA.
Not sure where you are getting your MD11 retirement info from. There has been not 1 official mention of the MD retiring anytime soon by UPS. Until that happens you can assume they will be around for a while.

Honest question, do you think the MD is going to be around past 5-7 years? If you do, good for you. Besides the chatter I hear, I choose to view things from a more realistic point of view. We can definitely agree to disagree and have a cold one after, cheers!

Boeing is increasing 767 production rate on 1 Jan 20 by a half plane a month, and reportedly has considered raising the rate on 1 Jul 20 and again 1 Jan 21 but that is dependent upon component availability from subcontractors.

UPS has piecemealed small orders for 767s over the last few years, buying two here, four there, etc...I've little doubt they'll continue doing that as opportunities present themselves.

I also would not be surprised if Atlanta were leaning on Boeing to formally announce the 767-X that was rumored in the last couple months, as it would hold four more main deck containers than the 763 with a footprint almost identical to the MD11. Boeing could use a win right now, and the 767 seems to be a bright spot alongside the 787 given its issues with the MAX and 777X development.

I'm not personally concerned about MDs leaving via mass parking like the DC8, even once we get all 28 Ochos there's no way we can sacrifice that much lift barring a MAJOR decrease in volume. And even if they did, in 2024 mandatory retirements hit triple digits and remain there for over a decade.

Cautious optimism should rule the day over unbridled enthusiasm IMO...especially as bid fence-sitters jump in and out prior to 1500z today.

Not sure if you're taking sdf 74 fo or captain in general, but I'm thinking that 74 sdf captain will be going more senior in future bids, The same with FO's.

Lots of senior guys like me are staying put for now because their are just too many unknowns. What will trips be like? When anc opened it was a long period of nothing but reserve lines.

Vacation? With a small domicile, they can put one slot up per week and have things more than covered. Ocv (two weeks in the same pay period) during a desirable time slot may be harder to get than a lot of these senior bubbas think.

I'll sit this one out and let the dust settle, enjoying my own climb as the slots of some younger and more senior numbers I never thought I'd get open up.

Right on, these two statements in particular!

Deliveries and retirements will continue to drive upgrades at UPS to 4-5 years. Rumours are upgrades will continue to be 4 years even for the 2022 hires! The MD-11-s have always been rumoured to be parked. It has been said they will continue at UPS until 2028. (I think that's pushing it) For the new hires, there's alot of guys that waited 15+ years to upgrade here, I can understand their skepticism, but times have changed. Don't put the new hires down for being excited.

I’m VERY pleasantly surprised 8/15 junior CA held.

When was the last time UPS had a sub-4.5yr CA award?

Surprised the 74 sdf went as junior as it did.

Thanks for posting the mock bids and awards on the B&G, Boiler. And congrats on the upgrade too!!
