Yes, but showing respect and empathy towards someone else does not mean you should be forced to change who you are or what you do. That, in my opinion, is where everything started going South..... someone got offended by something and now poof... you can't do that any more, you can't say that any more, you cant believe that anymore, you have to do what the offended says or you're a bad person. Sorry, one persons "offense" does not dictate the rights of someone else.

When this all started, we were told it was isolated to Asia. It shows up in the states, we shut down incoming and outgoing passenger flights to China. It spreads quickly in the States. We shut down the country for 7 days to “flatten the curve”. We extend it because it didn’t “flatten the curve” to 14 days, then a month. We are told to “social distance”. We are told to mask up. Fauci suggested at one point to double mask up. Fauci then says mask don’t work. Vaccine is released. This is supposed to get rid of Covid….
Science claimed all these things over the last year and a half will get rid of Covid.

In regards to this ^, Science suggested the best course of action from its POV but much of the US population consistently resisted its recommendations (masking efforts, social distancing restrictions, lockdown, vaccines, etc.). We thought we knew better and acted accordingly. Now some want to besmirch science because the current mess we are in was arrived at largely in part by not following science’s advice? Also, we can’t expect science to be omnipotent.

This will not end, the world simply has to learn and adapt without killing society as we know it. World herd immunity, the shot and maybe the virus mutating and killing itself are the only things that will slow or stop this thing.

I wasn’t arguing specifics nor a better outcome had we acted differently. Ill simplify my point:
1. A young kid hears his parent’s parental advice over the years. Kid mostly ignores it. Kid turns out bad. Kid blames parents. ???
2. Kid takes his parent’s advice. Kid turns out bad. Kid blames parents. Justified.
3. Kid doesn’t take parent’s advice because he “knows better.” Kid turns out bad. Kid blames parents. ??

When did we all start freaking out over "cases"? Don't we all have to get a "case" of COVID for us to reach the famed "herd immunity"? Cases do NOT equal deaths and running around forcing policies on people with the belief that they do is ridiculous. If cases did equal deaths, by my count, I would have moved up the list a ton this last year and change.

For all the .mil folks….just imagine if we had only known the absolute protection given by a flimsy piece of paper dangling loosely over your mouth. We could have gotten rid of gas masks, MOPP level 4, and yearly gas chamber training. Hell let’s call the mask MOPP level 1000!! We may have lugged all that crap around for years but at least now we can save some money by canceling your health insurance. Just wear the mask and your good!
I recommend you click through the NBC CBT slides a little slower next time. Then ask yourself why your mom taught you to cover your mouth when you sneeze. STRANGE! That’s exactly what a mask does, even when talking.
Or, think back to basic and imagine for a second a “basic”, cadet, midshipman whatever, and this guy/gal walking around sneezing and coughing without covering his/her mouth. That would get corrected quick, fast, and in a hurry. Hence masks…Not respirators or advanced filters, masks; a simple barrier to protect others.
The fact that people are still conflating the purpose 18 months in, is suprising.
