Is there a place where UPS details all the retirement options? I’ve read the airline profile here on APC. Can one take the pension option and still get matching to a 401k?

UPS and FedEx offer defined benefit pensions IN ADDITION to direct contributions to 401(k). It’s both, not one or the other.

UPS has three retirement plans:

Defined Benefit Pension "A Plan": 1% FAE or Flat Dollar Amount (1% FAE is the contractual standard, but practically everybody who retires gets the substantially higher Flat Dollar Amount which is renegotiated every contract due to ERISA law)
Defined Contribution "B Plan": Money Purchase Plan (MPP) of 12% Company contribution up to IRS 401a17 compensation limit, no "cash over cap"
401K - different pot of money than Company-funded MPP, 100% employee funded, no company match

Sorry to be the one to say this, Thread drift? This thread was about people who passed interview and haven’t even had a CJO let alone discuss retirement $$

tnk is right. To earn the Captain pension one must fly the revenue flight that is usually your “Release to the Line”.

The First Officer pension has the same vesting rules. In the TA extension the “A” plan flat dollar amount is multiplied by years of service. 1 through 30, when it is maxed out.

In the TA extension (2) those First Officer flat-dollar amounts were also increased to this amount multiplied by years of service:

January 2024-Captain $4525 Multiplied by YOS
First Officers $3620 X’s YOS

January 2025- Captain $4650 X’s YOS
First Officers $3720 X’s YOS.

If a crew member for whatever reason retires as a First Officer and retirees at or beyond the full-retirement age of 60 they are eligible for the flat-dollar “A” plan retirement.

Inflation concerns are all valid in my opinion but I am thankful that this leg of my retirement along with my 401k, Roth 401k, “B” Plan retirement fund (12% of earnings up to IRS limits)…full disclosure we do not get “cash over cap…

…are all there to fund my retirement. Thank you EB.

All this nonsense to say 98% of our retirees do so as Captains. Have we hired more “older” guys in the last 6-7 years? Sure. Will more retire as F/O’s? Maybe a handful. Unless you are hired 55+, which I don’t think we have any, you will be able to retire as a Captain, assuming you can pass upgrade, which is no joke here. We do have our fair share of senior, older guys attempting upgrade and failing out due to not being as sharp or not preparing accordingly.

At least 10 age 55+ and a couple age 60+ new hires over the last yr or so.

well, I mean, nothing really happening in that front right now. Think of it like you’re stuck in the lobby making chit chat with a group of people trying to get into the building.

Rumors are starting to fly that classes may resume next month. I've started at another airline but I'm still in training. Should I update my employment history now or wait until I finish OE (probably mid May)?

If you have the ability to edit your UPS app for this year, you should keep it current to the extent possible. However, you do unlock additional sections to complete on your UPS app once you receive a formal offer, and this may be the best time to update your employment status post-interview. Either way, once HR is in contact with you regarding an offer, you should coordinate with them about how they want you to update your experience.

You will need to complete a PRIA/PRD request for your current airline when you move on. That process will all be detailed in your formal offer.
