March new hire class

The last time management spoke on the issue, that was the impression they made. What the plan is today or will be tomorrow…I have no idea. I’ve recently listened to some folks who are convinced we will be announcing the purchase of either A350s or 777s at the end of Q1. I am very skeptical, but hopefully they are right.

From pilot talk by the water cooler, FWIW:
MDs are on going sooner than later, we all know that. The older 400’s (747) and 75s will probably start to follow shortly afterward. Use the 350/777 like MD to fill that gap between but also to cover either long haul or 76 stuff lost by 400 and 75 retirement and when operationally necessary.
Personally, I don’t think they want a direct MD replacement. Instead, get the 350/777s to supplement the 747 niche and then get more 76’s to take over the bulk of current MD flying.
Either way, to get the 350s/777 online is a multi year process so timeline works out for an announcement in the next year or so.

Had dinner with a Captain the other night and he said some big announcement about announcing a new aircraft was "accidentally" sent from a management pilot to someone high up the food chain in the IPA. And, apparently, that announcement is supposed to be in the next month or two. I'm hoping for a new aircraft, as well.

If there is an announcement in the next month or two, the IPA would already be required to know about it. No accident necessary.

As odd as it sounds, years ago I got emails meant for an EB member for several months.

The CPIL was very clear temporary storage, delaying heavy maintenance expenses until needed. UPS will pull them out of storage in a heartbeat if needed. The 75 is a bigger problem than the MD as we have way more and just like the MD no replacement close to it. Maybe the A321, maybe upscale with 76, but no true replacement.

The pratts on the MD are hitting firm time limits on a specific section of the engine. 75s are just getting old in general. Seeing as UPS just upgraded them to glass, they probably won’t start to retire any 75s for at least a few years. I also heard the busses are good for another 10-15 yrs at most.
