Miserable? Ask the 2007 hires. And even late 1994 hires it was 11 to 12 years to Left Seat. If one was going to leave for a legacy, it should have been done 3 years ago. Hiring already getting cut in half at DL for 2024.

The legacies are great jobs, but our average new hire is in his mid-40s. That lack of time for the time value of money to kick in increases the value of the A plan. Whether a DEC at United or an FO at Brown, the limit for 401k/B plan savings is the same. So long as the Brown FO upgrades prior to retirement he will have substantially more tax advantaged retirement income here than at United. This matters far more for someone starting in their 40s than in their 20s. A 20 something has time to capitalize on the time value of money from cash over cap that is invested in non-tax advantaged accounts.

All that said, the time to go was before Delta, United, and American hired thousands of folks. The wave has likely crested, still great opportunities there, but perhaps not as crazy good as the last couple years.

Truth. And those thousands they hired are predominantly young setting up the stage for slow progression down the road for many getting on later in the game.

I confirm that. Delta, although less than 2022 and 2023, is still close to the next two highest years in the last two decades. AA and United are still on or about their record breaking last couple of years.

Amazon packages are down, PAX are strongly up.
