Agreed. Now that Fred and his love affair with air cargo is gone, FedEx corporate is free to chase efficiency and cost savings at the expense of their airline’s growth. Unfortunately, my best guess is that their pilot group will see stagnant numbers for several years going forward as FedEx corporate figures out how to use a more UPS like business model. Hopefully, they stand strong on their contract negotiations and refuse to accept less than the going rate for widebody pilots, while also improving their retirement plan. I don’t envy them.
UPS= United Parcel Service, nothing in the name that says get it there fast ie: fly it if too far to truck over night.
FedEx= Federal Express, Express definition -denotes an overnight or rapid delivery service
So maybe they should rename FedEx to FedPS, or Federal Parcel Service

NRT, CRK, SIN also regional hubs? Is this your reasoning? The point is, FDX has triple the planes at each Asia gateway. Which also means there is consolidation and "Fat" that can be trimmed. Which was the original subject.
NRT alone FDX flies to OAK, MEM, ANC, CAN, SIN, CDG, ICN, KIX, etc.

Wouldn't be shocking to see many of those FDX planes be methodically replaced by a 3rd party operator over the next decade with the remaining FDX planes only operating the routes protected by our scope clause or a third party's inability to get authorization to fly the same route.

But they haven't. And never will most likely. For an Airline that has zero or no scope, your doing fabulously. 5500 pilots fabulously. And have triple the planes in Asia gateways. Scope is sooo bad. Really? I also forgot another 9th flight u have along with the other eight. NRT and KIX to IND.

They changed it to FedEx because FedEx was not just synonymous with Federal Express it was not how you overnighted things. Federal express invented and perfected the overnight express industry. If you wanted something overnight you said you were going to FedEx it, even if you took it to the post office or to UPS. So they took advantage of this marketing opportunity and changed it.

Let's not forget, Xerox, Thermos, Band-Aid, Jacuzzi, Kleenex, etc. used initially securing themselves as product leaders and in the end became generic or disappeared with generational gaps or other competitors. Velcro and Coke are hanging in there for the most part, but this topic definitely brings you back to a time frame. Business is business and rarely stays stagnant in order to survive or grow. Appreciate the rearview mirror glance - good times.
