Default Schedule question

I realize with multiple types and domestic vs international changes it up a lot but what is a realistic junior type reserve schedule? I have read 14/28 mentioned. Is that chopped into blocks of days on/off? If so what does that look like for a junior FO, one that might commute? What’s the longest stretch of trips one might be looking at?

I have tried searching around but not much for posts on it. TIA

feel free to PM as well

It depends on fleet and domicile....but generally speaking, reserve lines that go junior tend to be choppy in their pattern. RSV is 14 out of 28 days each pay period or 28 days in a 56 day bid period. The last couple years they've gotten very potpourri in reserve line patterning; you could do short block where you do 3-4 RSV days every single week, or you could have 3-4 blocks ranging between 3 and 14 days of reserve duty - even domestically.

On VTOR (tertiary lines), reserve patterns tend to also be irregular although at least on my fleet they seem to have a *bit* more symmetry and week on/off-esque patterns.

I would not count on being able to hold reserve.

I’ve found on 3 different fleets that the 2 weeks blocks tend to go somewhat senior. It works for the commuters. Chopped up A is what bottom feeders typically get but I’d argue they get more base trip lines (chopped up, hodgepodge lines) on average. Base trips arguably better if you have flexibility: you get line holder rights and you can almost always trade stuff around to get a more palatable schedule. one time I was able to trade my entire ups month BTL for a really sweet 12 day intl trip (14 on paper but paid tickets to Europe and then stayed on plane/JS all the way back home at the end). If nothing else you can usually group things together better for longer blocks of days off, get out of some night flying, etc.

What about reserve B, how long to have a shot at that on the 75/76 SDF fleet?

Let’s say someone is on a choppy reserve line, can you pick up trips to fill your schedule making it more commuter-friendly?

RSVB goes more senior on pretty much every fleet, not sure how low it goes for Domestic FOs.

Cannot contractually trade RSV days for trips if awarded a Reserve line, but if awarded a VTOR line with a mix of duty (trips or hots and RSV) you can trade those RSV days for trips. RSV lineholders can absolutely pick up trips, and any PO will pay on top of guarantee.

Moving RSV days is contractually possible, but currently subject to restrictions which makes it difficult.

Thanks for the explanation.
Out of curiosity, do you have reserves in hub airports abroad, like SZX or CGN?
