Do you know how insanely good our health benefits package is? We are not industry leading, we are miles ahead. Doubling the premiums is a giveback I'm more than comfortable with and it still keeps us miles ahead.

Well sure but the after tax money doesn't count against the $53K does it? I was wondering because earlier posts said that CA's start to lose part of that 12% 2/3 through the year or so - wondering why that happens. If the 12% plus your 18,000 input is still well under $53,000 then you're not losing anything right?

Tuck,
If you put the after tax money into your 401k, it counts against the total amount. The only break you get is the year you turn 50, you can contribute the catch up amount which doesn't count against the total.
