[QUOTE=FLowpayFO;1861231] The only way this person will live comfortably is they are going to come to a regional with money they saved during their time at EK to supplement their garbage income they will receive at a regional.[QUOTE]
That's exactly the plan for most guys. I left EK with zero debt and over $100k in the bank. Granted I came back to a legacy, but I have no PIC time and was picked up quickly by a major because of the heavy time. American FO's at Emirates aren't going to stick around for the long upgrade there with the current hiring situation going on in the US.

Yep, guys are doing that here for the several reasons: To get out of EK and to have much better access to interviews which with the EK schedules are next to impossible to do… on purpose from EK's part, I'd guess
I know one gentlemen who left as a 3 year FO on the wide body to go to a regional in the US. He had no qualms at all about doing it to leave EK. I just received a whatsapp from him 4-5 weeks ago that he'd been hired at UAL, after having been with the regional for about 3-4 months.
Some guys just want out no matter what… I also know two pilots personally, and have heard of one other EK pilot whom I don't know, who've resigned with no job to go to!
Sadly, these are facts at EK these days….

That's a fair point. I am a bit jaded against EK just because of the comparison of when I first arrived on the property to todays environment.
Yes, of course there are some good things. I will list them here.
You can actually save some pretty good money each month as a single guy. Your overhead will be relatively low since the housing and all utilities are accounted for living in company accommodation. Also you can live outside company accom and get about $3,500/month to do so, but of course it will be considered taxable income to the IRS so you lose about 30% of that right off the top… just something to be aware of.
Free medical for you, free dental for you, transport to and from all flights and training events. The flying is fun… no two ways about it. The issue with that part is, it's a crazy mix of night day/day night stuff with short haul and then long haul, eastbound, westbound.
Tax free salary (but IRS will want taxes on anything earned above about 100K… so FO's usually don't get hit with this for the first few years)
Gotta say there is pretty good social climate in Dubai with the cabin crew if you're so inclined. Oh to be in my late 20's again!
Free uniforms every couple of years. You can get an interest free car loan to the tune of about 20K paid back over either 4 or 5 years I think.
So….. yes, there are good things about the place but just be aware that no matter what you think it's going to be…. it won't quite be that.
They're going to work you very hard. And if you get a trip either cancelled or taken away, you do not get those days off, you are put on reserve, to include being called for sim support for a PPC which are you supposed to be ready for at any time. It's a preferential bid system here, so you won't get to add many vacation days at the front or back of those leave days. And no conflicts from one month into the next. You'll be flying 900 hours a year, or more with Long haul because time in the bunk doesn't count towards that 900.
Anyways, there are some good things!! :-)

Have you wandered over to Pprune? That is where you'll find lots of info. Check out the middle east section and there's a thread on Everything you want to know about Emirates. You'll want to go back maybe the past 6 months and have a read to get a good idea of how they run it nowadays.

I attended recently with one other applicant in MIA. I showed up at time told and 777 sim was full so we went to a 747-400 sim. The sim time is basically to display basic flying ability with a heavy aircraft. I enjoyed the sim experience. Testing on 5 areas in classroom for like cognitive, memory, aviation knowledge. Nothing really to study for. Took about 4 hours. We were told to expect a early May response on invite to DBX. Both of us wore suit no tie. Jacket not even necessary. They are looking to hire 500 this year.

Got an email from EK today saying I was shortlisted for the interview pool. I know by no means does this mean I will wind up getting an interview just curious if anyone knows how short or long this "shortlist" really is. Anyone else get that email then eventually get the call? If so how long did it take? Thanks in advance.
