Default Sim time is not part of total time

The question wasnt does my sim time become part of my total time. It was do i report my sim/ftd time as its own category.

Sim time isn't worth much on an application, if anything....I'm not an expert. If it's all you have, then maybe include it. But otherwise, I would think highlighting it seems to be making up for low total time....even your total time doesn't need bolstering.

There's an old adage that under-reporting your time probably won't hurt you, but over-reporting it can get you blacklisted...
Part 61.65 clearly states sim time can be used for a portion of your instrument rating.......the percentage allowed depends what type of school you are using(61 vs 142)........ a legit reason to log it and report it.

61.57 states sim/ftd can be used to maintain instrument currency as well as utilize them for instrument proficiency checks.

Clearly thee FAA says "its worth something"

Under-reporting & over-reporting has nothing to do with it. Reporting it does not make up for "low time".....Its not part of your total time!

Because it's a tool to enhance your proficiency/ maintain currency without burning fuel and generating more mx time on your aircraft.

Doesnt matter if its on the civil side or the military side......it benefits everyone and is a wonderful tool if you are learning an inst. approach for the first time or executing your 1000th approach for currency/proficiency.

Not arguing this point. I agree that simulator time is beneficial and frequently cost effective. My argument is that since I have my required ratings already, the only benefit I see to logging simulator time is if you need it to demonstrate currency for legality purposes. Otherwise, it's fluff on an application.

I didn't say it was part of your total, either. Don't confuse an FAR with what the airlines are looking for.

My point, like Toonces, is that including it might be perceived as "fluff." If a guy has 6000 hours of fighter time, was in the Thunderbirds, and volunteers for Big Brothers of America, including 100 hours of T-34 sim time would probably be viewed as "trying to be accurate and factual," but not necessarily pertinent.

On the other hand, having 1501 hours, mostly in light singles, and showing 212.2 hours in a Frasca would probably make them wonder why it was included.

Shack.

Read the application, include it if there is a place for it. If not it means they don't care.
