Do you think some junior FOs might be in a risk to being displaced from EWR to Albany, the reason why I ask is I am very happy being based in EWR and do not want to be based in a outstation once again as I have done that with my last airline and prefer the city life more.

I have been told that IF an ALB base is considered it would be a voluntary base only (supposedly meaning NO displacements) and that it would need to pass a pilot vote first...which it never will. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Erm... I highly doubt the contract has any stipulation saying that a new base must be voted on before being opened. The company can do whatever they like when it comes to the bases.

The company will only open an Albany base if it makes sense for operations and the wallet.

Yeah but at the same time how many new hires will want to be based in ALB? If the company were smart they would see that opening an ALB base would deter new hires from coming here which goes against the pay increase that was just voted in. I think the company will see that we need to do whatever we can to attract and keep first officers. Opening Albany will Not do that!

I think that's a question you'd have to ask new hires, not guess at. For me, that would mean 70 miles less of a drive to their nearest current crew base - enough to make a difference. Of course, with their new commuter clause, I think it would mean less. I could always just show up the night before on the company dime.

Exciting times at CommutAir!
Effective April 1st the company and our pilot group have agreed on significant improvements to pay and quality of life for our pilot group. Among other things, the Letter of Agreement
added to our CBA includes significant pay increases for both First Officers and Captains, a potentially best in the industry commuter policy, and several other significant improvements
to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Details of the LOA include:

· Pay Rates (which make us one of the top 5 regional airlines over a 5 year tenure)
1) Year 1 FO pay $30/hr, Year 2 $32, average increase of nearly 21%
2) Year 1 Captain pay $48/hr., year 2 $49.00, year 3 $50.00, with an average increase of 7% for the rest of the Captain scale; pay scale created for 50 seat captains: + $5/hr
· Commuter Policy
1) the intent of the language is to protect a pilot who makes a good effort to get to work. No more disciplinary action for commuting failures if a few conditions are met.
2) One primary and one backup flight with no specific number of available seats. The jumpseat counts as an available seat.
3) Company-paid hotels for commuters who choose to commute the day prior to a trip. Each commuter pilot is entitled to up to 4 rooms per bid under this policy.
· Alternate Deadhead
Pilots will not lose deadhead pay when they choose to cancel a deadhead to or from an assignment.
· Parking
Commuters will now be reimbursed for their cost to park at home, up to the actual cost of parking at their domicile.

I know quite a few people that live in Albany that work for my former airline that may think twice now about making the jump. Also at Colgan they had a pretty good crashpad setup in Albany, which Im sure was cheaper than a crash pad in IAD or EWR.
