Don't know about you, but I don't want my airline pilots to get worked up over anything. I expect the full-on Chuck Yeager treatment from the cockpit — unruffled, unexcitable, half-amused by whatever is out there, good or bad.

The kind of brutally callous rhetoric increasingly common among politicians isn't what you want from the guy who might have your fate in his hands slashing through the skies at more than 500 mph, more than 6 miles above the ground.

You want someone utterly unfazed by anything, someone with a been-there, done-that, nothing-to-worry-about perspective.
the media will always say this when the story is about their safety. but when contract talks or bankruptcy or new low-cost carriers are the story, the media will lash out at legacy ("been around, seen that") pilots at legacy carriers. media loves the 25 yr old rj pilot who has 2000 hrs and works for 35 grand

Crandall once said that if you ask people what they want, they will describe a large lie-flat seat with wine and caviar, pillows and blankets. but if you ask what they will pay, they only will pay to be crammed into very tiny, upright spaces.

point being. don't look to the Tribune to figure out what passengers want in their pilots. guarantee you that opinion piece author clicks on the lowest fare when he flies on vaca

If this guy identified himself as a UAL pilot while making this tasteless Tweet he is on thin ice. I know of a pilot who threatened a fellow employee with bodily harm with a gun. Since it happened off campus UAL didn't do anything and they knew about it. I know of a flight attendant who accused a pilot of rape while on a layover. She was proven to have made the whole thing up. She is still working here. I guess those things don't compare to making a stupid statement online.

Is this why we can't talk about public affairs/politics in public anymore? I saw some half-assed e-memo on the UAL CCS website this morning while logging in "reminding me" of UAL's "working together" guidelines and some other stupid PC mumbo jumbo.

One of the reasons America sort of sucks now-a-days is we regular folks can't speak our minds and talk some sense into this instantaneous-gratification-liberalized-marijuana legalized, stupefied, lazified, ninney baby nanny state, low expectation setting, save the seals, love the weirdo's, hug the trees, tolerate everyone and anyone--especially the wacked out and freaked out.

The chickens have come home to roost. The Obama-Clinton-Kerry-Biden foursome of awesome has America in such a great place. Leading from behind (lagging for us regular folks) and doing a whole lot of nothing. It's no longer the unemployment rate, now it's the labor participation rate.

If any elected officials are starting to call out Obma and Clinton I think they deserve a pat on the back. Enough PC already. Call some balls and strikes and call'em like you see'em.

just don't identify yourself as a United pilot while speaking your mind. You still have your First Amendment rights. Just "caveat" what you say...."this may or may not be the official opinion of United Airlines, the United pilot group, or the Airline Pilots Association, the opinions that I express are my own and not that of my company brain-washers or PC management.

Loretta Lynch is gonna get him. They'll let Hillary walk. She couldn't legally and legitimately pass a SSBI background check to even hold a security clearance....But hey...What do you expect for the Obama gong show?

I hope and trust that ALPA will defend him with vigor and spend millions if necessary in the process and fight for back pay, and back everything else. Our company can't hold one of our pilots hostage and I for one demand ALPA stand up for one of us and all of us.

Agreed. He didn't threaten her directly. The Secret Service hasn't visited this guy.

I am sure everyone who is sick of the Obama-Clinton gong show would gladly bring these people up on treason, and I for one support treason charges for Obama and impeachment for Clinton for lying to Congress. Anyone who sees it any differently is simply lying to themselves.

The bigger issue is: We can't influence the process the right way because the game is rigged. The government's got you by the short ones because any negative speech is now a hate crime or some stupid form of discrimination and now your employer is keeping it all PC and won't let you speak your mind and they threaten you with your job. I guess it's going to stay rigged. Now that corporate America has sold out to the liberals we're done.

"Free speech" is only for the lefties. If you are conservative and speak freely they will bully you and try to force companies to fire employees like this guy. Just look at the Twitter uprising from the left.

Also check out the #FreeMilo hashtag on Twitter. A conservative Gay gets permanent ban on Twitter, then when that hashtag trends #1, Twitter REMOVES IT completely, and only after news organizations report it, Twitter reposts it.

I am not advocating for or against either side*, but the left does a far better job squashing the right with free reign and help from the press and if anyone on the right says anything they are immediately bullied and called racist bigots, etc.

And it works.

He didn't threaten her at all... the media chopped off what he actually wrote. He said she should be tried and convicted, THEN hung. In other words he is saying she should have due process which is how the system is supposed to work. And I think some states still do hangings as a means to execution? But regardless, while what he wrote may have been crass, it was not a threat to anyone whatsoever.
