Calculated decision by the company? Yes. Knee jerk? Hardly. If it were your company, you'd be doing the same.

It is my (our!) company and I for one am glad he's out of the cockpit. He's got massive self control and judgement issues. Alpa will have to spend various types of capital on this DB while normal pilots go about practicing their profession.

Perhaps now he can pursue a spot in Trump's administration full time. He'd fit right in.

Well, with this board he could be swinging from a tree by sunrise. If that picture was taken from the net and unrelated to his Twitter account of a politician then I think he should not be punished by UAL. Let the local voters decide if they feel he was out of line. He has a right to say what he wants. Now if his Twitter came out with something like " I'm a pilot for United Airlines AND an elected official who thinks Hillary should .....etc". Then he should be disciplined by United. This link is nothing more than a hit piece thrown together by some pinheaded Bolshevik looking to smear a conservative politician.

Pretty sure ALPA and company Code of Ethics says differently.

Bingo.

Wrong.... I might could see sending him a memo saying "hey, be more careful in the future, your comments are embarrassing to us" but that is about where it should end (unless he actually threatens someone or breaks the law in some way which in this case he has not).

His Twitter account is private now so this question is for anyone who saw the tweet.....on Twitter, not on the Raw Story website:

Did this guy post a picture of himself in uniform along with the "inflammatory comments" on Twitter?

I'm not defending this guys views, but it seems like the story was manufactured for maximum negative effect. How hard is it for a hack web editor to marry inflammatory comments with the most potentially damaging photo?

If this guy posted the photo of himself, in uniform, with his comments on Twitter than yes, he's an idiot. If on the other hand the incendiary story was manufactured, how about a nod to "presumed innocent" from all you constitutional scholars.

Looks like he's removed for one trip, but still on schedule to fly towards end of the month. For now.

It doesn't matter. Company policy about social media addresses this issue. I've already posted a link of examples of people getting fired for social media misfires, many of them having NOTHING to do with their company. A quick Google search will show countless people who are fired due to social media indiscretions. He most certainly didn't need to be in uniform or mention United to warrant disciplanary action up to and including termination. What's worse is that he's doubling down in the media. Keep talking Buddy. You look like a total baffoon.

Totally agree about the calculated decision. The company looked at the PR and made a knee jerk decision to save face. It means nothing, and he probably won't loose a dime, let alone a paycheck.

Did he say what he did while representing UAL, or in uniform? I don't know. If he didn't, and they just found out he was a UAL pilot as a sidetone, UAL can't do squat.

If he gets LTD, I am going to go around making public statements about executing Hilary and The Donald. Maybe I will get LTD X 2.
