Yes, because the First Amendment protects your right of free speech from GOVERNMENT interference, nothing else. It's amazing how many people don't know that.

If you run off at the mouth and it costs your employer money or causes them embarrassment, they can fire you.

don't focus on the background, dem vs repub. Hill vs trump, his speech is protected, its treason exct. whether you even believe in the death penalty or not.

This guy is for PUBLIC executions!

AND he was stupid enough to say it online!

hot dam, even china stopped doing it publicly..

According to Amnesty International, in 2012 "public executions were known to have been carried out in Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Somalia."[4] Amnesty International however does not include Syria, Afghanistan, and Yemen in their list of public execution countries even though they execute in front of the public regularly.

Per the @united Twitter account, Folk has been suspended from flight duty pending investigation.

It don't think he said anything too crazy but he really ought to string his words together more carefully. "We're not going to Vegas" isn't actually that crazy either.

Not only that but Hillary supports are threatening that if United doesn't fire the pilot they will refuse to fly them again.

I am on a plane every other week, @united. I will NEVER fly you again in if you don't fire this man. Beyond ridiculous.
So what this means is that you don't have free speech if you offend one political party your job is at stake.

This isn't about freedom of speech. There are a lot of things you can legally say or do that won't get you in trouble with the law but will in fact get you fired if you make your company look bad. It's irrelevant if he made those comments in uniform or not.

We all clicked through a lot of social media policy crud in CQDL's over the past 4 years. This dude put it out there that he was a UAL pilot. It's rt there on LinkedIn. I have zero doubt something in that policy is gonna get him time off. Thankfully he has our union and our dues to bail him out. Doubt he will bring that up during his appearance guaranteed appearance on Hannity.

It's not about free speech, it's about the free market. Speachify as much as you want. If you want to keep your voluntary, private-sector job, you may choose to restrict your speech. If not, don't.

Shouldn't the unions protect him from this sort of thing?

As an elected official he was forced to disclose his income by law. Even if he hadn't put it out there it was still a matter of public record.

Are companies going to begin to fire employees who also happen to serve as town council members, county commissioners, and state legislators, just because they vote or talk a certain way?
