Before you were at UPS
I am curious to see the quals and what type of flying you did before you got on with UPS. I'm sure most have military experience, but does UPS have some regional pilots as well? If so, what kind of hours did you have and what makes somewhere competitive there?

UPS hires a lot of non-military pilots. I believe on of our recent classes was primarily non-mil pilots. I will say they like to see int experience, but by no means is it a pre-requisite .

I don't think it's much different than the other majors but the app is significantly less detailed so you've got to make certain you are selling yourself at every opportunity. Seems they are taking higher time guys (relative to other majors). Avg, I think, is around 8K TT and maybe slightly older average age (37-38??) as well. They keep the background mix pretty diverse but what is constant amongst newhires is activity beyond flying the line (check airman, safety dept work, training, etc). The company is also big on giving back to the community so you should probably have a decent amount of that too. Otherwise, embrace the tried and true platitudes of: network-network-network, and apply everywhere. Best of luck.
I think the last class was 9,500 TT.

This is a 2016 snap shot only.
2017 could be whole different snap shot.
Consistent: UPS has always hired from all back grounds and experience.
This holds true for 2016. UPS hires pilots from 20's to late 50's for line pilots.

This is true. Corporate, military, regional, freight dogs--- UPS hires 'em all.
I would add that if you're at Atlas/Polar/Southern/similar you're placed at the front of the line. We are poaching a ton of these guys

Some airlines, particularly SWA, FDX, and DAL all seem to have historically liked military pilots, and if anything put a "halo" around some. UPS interviewers have often appeared to have more of a "well..these guys didn't have the taxpayer pay for THEIR training..." type mindset.
There are plenty of good pilots from all backgrounds at UPS, but I know quite a few military interviewees shown the door. A couple are now at FDX and one at Delta. Being military at UPS was "no big deal" to the interviewers.
Conversely, I've seen guys who "weren't FDX/DAL" material hired successfully at UPS.
All this makes me think if you have been schlepping freight in ****-holes around the world, or working 135 somewhere, UPS does NOT look down on that but rather seems to respect the grit you have shown. What made you feel "less sexy" at your Delta interview is actually an attractive trait to UPS.

Normally, you post normal things but what exactly is FDX/DAL material? That sounds like a very dumb line because I know many tools who fly for FDX and Delta but somehow they got hired. UPS in on par with any of those two carriers so please stop generalizing. Maybe UPS realizes that a diverse pilot group is better than hiring only military pilots. Not all military pilots are gods gift ya know...

Stereotypically, some carriers in the past "idolize" military flyers. UPS does not. They seem to value guys and gals who have done the tougher 121 supplemental and 135 gigs.
As an example, during the sim prep I've seen questions come up to my mil guys "so...how are you going to deal with flying with guys who never flew off a carrier, etc..." The pilot was smart enough to not take the bait, but it was obvious the interviewer was searching for any bias towards non-military pilots with the candidate. It makes sense, because there are a bunch of pilots from a lot of backgrounds at UPS, and they don't want primadonas.
I think you misread my post. FWIW...I got one kid who is a CFI and will likely purse the regional ranks. I have a bunch of regional folks and some with corporate experience on my team. The best MD-11 LCA I flew with was a 23 year old ATP. I know good pilots come from lots of different places.
