Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't need to be a part of ALPA to fly for Alaska. You can choose to not be represented, and not pay dues.

Their future is dependent on on our future. So yes they are fighting for our futures.

Thats incorrect. Dues are mandatory. People do have a choice to work for non-union airlines. It's what we all signed up for when we accepted the job most of us begged to get.

How many economists and investors blame the high rate of unionization in the U.S. airline industry for driving pilot compensation well beyond the level they believe it should be? The 2% is one of the best investments we can make in our careers and in the future of our profession.

Normally a non-union member still has to pay agency fees, which are basically reduced dues covering collective bargaining, but maybe that depends on state law?

It is governed by the RLA; specific to the individual CBA and if there is an "Agency Shop" provision. If so, a non-union member is required to pay a service charge, representative of the amount ALPA spends directly in representation.

Alaska is an agency shop.

I would like to apologize to all of the Alaska reps. I know each of you donate your time and work really hard to improve all of our lives. I am frustrated at Alpa National, they have collected billions in dues and don't even have a furlough fund. It frustrates me that money ends up in the pockets of politicians and other causes I don't support. I am sorry for stirring up frustrations with my co-workers. Just want this covid sh#t to end

There isn’t one person on here with half a brain, that doesn’t feel for you, that doesn’t understand. This will one day be in your rearview, with hopefully only blue sky ahead. Cheers, your union is honestly giving you everything they have!

1) ALPA dues cannot be used for political purposes. That’s where ALPA-PAC comes in.

2) ALPA-PAC is one of the most bi-partisan PAC’s in the US.
