Quote: Sunshine bear and I do not LUV the turn of events. It appears as though we are no longer the hunter, but the hunted. Interesting times ahead, I think the Alaska brand will begin its sunset this spring.
The Frontier/Spirit merger has LUV thinking hard about their next move. There has been a lot of meetings on how they are going to spend their cash on hand. I've been hearing $10 billion is what they are looking to spend. Sun Country, Alaska and more aircraft are on the table. Alaska's market cap is around $7 billion. I think the only issue would be the regulators. Southwest is watching to see how the Frontier/Spirit merger is handled.

Quote: If LUV attempts a takeover, it won't be the first time. This time, it may work. I've never wanted to work for Corndog. Fortunately, it's a career airline and my career is nearing an end. SWAPA+ALPA merger will not be very fun. Critter was a shack and the Eskimo is an old but a decent townhouse. I doubt that the 100 unit apartment complex owner will be very kind. Some will hit the lotto and some will win a scratcher. More fun times ahead.
I sure hope some senior AS captains won't have to go looking for their 3 stripe epaulets again.

An ill wind blows...

An unjust integration with Alaska captains losing seats would be an ugly fight.

SWAPA will throw their weight around, especially since they'll be no doubt thinkng that we won the lottery by them acquiring us.

Poetic, however tragic, justice that would be.

Corndog ate a weak Critter, who got a windfall. Eskimo isn’t in the same predicament as Critter. SLI will end up in arbitration as always and I doubt Corndog will fare as well this time around but no one has a crystal ball. This is just all speculation and good forum discussion at the moment. I believe no one risked losing his/her/they CA seat at Critter as long as he/she/they didn’t bid out of base. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Didn't Southwest place their MAX order before the disasters? Alaska currently has lower cost per seat mile than Southwest, add in Alaska's sweatheart MAX deal and our costs drop relative to southwest's as we take delivery of more planes. By buying alaska, Southwest could effectively lower their operating costs while also gaining gate space at America's most exclusive and gate restricted airports. Pricing power and revenue goes up and costs come down. Who wouldn't make that deal?

Agreed.

I presume that all the airlines are looking at their available options atm, and calculating their best moves.

What could look like a done deal, could easily be usurped by those who have other plans.

Not to mention gaining 3,000 pilots, in what is shaping up to be a tight labor market.
