The Airline that Time Forgot
#1
I this is gonna be my last post for a while. Honestly…. If you’re a potential new hire… for whatever reason, and you look at our current situation and decide to come here…. More power to ya. If nothing else you’ll get a type, get to fly with some great people, etc.
But, I see zero indication, outside of an intervening force this place does anything but shrink as an airline. Fundamentally, they really don’t like to compete. They’re like hyenas. Take down some weak prey occasionally but mostly feed off scraps from the apex predators. Yeah, we occasionally puff out our chest and act like we’re all that but then a gust of wind comes and we drop like a fainting goat.
The good news is, maybe we get released. I’ll say this if ALASKA can’t get released…. NOBODY is EVER getting released…. Ever. Might as well call the days of self help possibility over. We are the canary in that coal mine.
Anyway, just evidence of more,….not even gonna call it failure anymore….. call it direction…. Where this company tries to shrink itself back to like 2005 or earlier and maybe hopes the economy collapses in such a way thousands of pilots and routes are on the street and they can pick at the bones.
Anyway…. I’m out for a while. This place is what it is.
Alaska Stops Anchorage Hawaii through November 2022.
Once again…. Funny…. No mention of this strategy on Fri during the investor call.🤔 🤔That’s ODD!??
Prob worked it up on a cocktail napkin over the weekend.

All ships take on water, which is why they have bilge pumps. That’s not usually a huge problem.
A management that thinks it can let the water out by drilling a hole in the bottom of the hull though, now THAT is a problem.
And you don’t solve that problem by having your COO giving the hairy eyeball to crew members campaigning for a better bilge pump.

Big difference how alaska addresses the short falls of our staffing issues compared to United CEO’s Q1 earning call. They at least sound dedicated to growing their pilot group, while alaska makes up excuses.
You don’t hear of Alaska buying more simulators and training more check airman. It’s just going to bottle neck when the Airbus pilots transition to the Boeing.
As you said, alaska will just retreat to what they know best and hide in Seattle with limited growth.
