I think it’s to strong arm Boeing to pay for all lost revenue and nice discount on more MAXs and 787 when we retire the 330s in however many years
I think it’s to make sure Boeing stays in line

interestingly enough on a all pilot call today Hawaiians MEC mentioned that in meetings they had last week with alaska management they said basically the exact opposite of what was said in this quote. I would bet it’s a ploy to strong arm Boeing. I fully expect the combined group to be all 787 and 737 fleet within 10 years. Maybe the Amazon cargo will still have the 330 if that contract continues.

All the media posturing from AAG: Ben being quoted as angry, says we may not by the MAX 10, etc
To me it points to this grounding lasting a lot longer. They probably sorted that out today and they are upset about it.

Exactly, I think this is more a shot at the FAA than Boeing.

The Reserve P/U MOU said it would not be effective if there are furloughs. So now the union signed off on EILs as the equivalent force to furloughs for the reserve pick up MOU and made this provision null/void.
Is someone complaining about lack of flexibility? It would seem every base/seat is well staffed and there is very little opentime. You can drop just about anything. Or… is this about pilots complaining reserves take open time and there is no quality trips to trade from? Whatever happened to first come, first serve? Now, a solid 30-35% of pilots will be limited to 75-79 hrs on reserve with no opportunity to make more.
I thought the “old guard” was changing. This is just another example of the union screwing the junior pilots, for a gain on the senior side. Let’s face it, these EILs will go senior.
