Is someone complaining about lack of flexibility? It would seem every base/seat is well staffed and there is very little opentime. You can drop just about anything. Or… is this about pilots complaining reserves take open time and there is no quality trips to trade from? Whatever happened to first come, first serve? Now, a solid 30-35% of pilots will be limited to 75-79 hrs on reserve with no opportunity to make more.

I thought the “old guard” was changing. This is just another example of the union screwing the junior pilots, for a gain on the senior side. Let’s face it, these EILs will go senior.
Bummer. Have you tried being more senior?

I’m trying. Hasn’t been easy. And Age 67 won’t help that.

At least you can hold a line. Nothing like a rug pull from our very own MEC. I'm hopeful this will greatly contribute to attrition and they'll actually consider jr pilots before doing something like this again.

Oh the hue manatee! This jr pilot welcomes it. It will artificially advance my seniority for a month or two. If I don't get an IL I'll be that much closer to getting a line, or have my pick of the reserve lines and have very little chance of having to fly.

Hey let us know how that works out for you. I never was able to hold an IL during covid. They go very senior. Hopefully you wont be on reserve. Our MAX flying is about to resume. MAX pain for the reserves for a while. The next 3 months will not be fun for anyone.

Well I got a line in February when I haven’t held one all winter, so it’s worked out well so far. If 25 ahead of me take ILs it should help my seniority a ton, along with the rest of the jr pilots.

Thats not the point.

Some people were still taking unpaid leaves in Jan and Feb. That’s fine. They are taking a pay hit at no one else’s ability to make more/less.

Now, in order to give 147 pilots 40 hrs to stay home, the union has capped about 500-600 pilots the ability to make any extra money above reserve guarantee.

In this day of staffing, any trip could be covered by a reserve pilot on their reserve days on. So when a pilot picks up on a reserve day off, it costs the company that extra money. Because that trip could have been left alone and covered by a reserve on their RSV days, already baked in their cost of paying 75-79 hrs on reserve. By killing this ability, it opens up funds to pay people 40 hrs to stay home. It’s a robbing Paul to pay Peter kind of move. Because a reserve picking up on their day off doesn’t affect a senior pilot. But this move now caps the earning ability of 500-600 pilots so that ~150 can get partial pay to stay home.

Nearly 4 yrs ago around April 2020, the company killed the Rsv pickup MOU because of Covid. We got it back in the new contract. Now, the union has killed this ability for ANY month going forward that has an EIL.

Sorry, but I think it’s wrong.

Check with your ALPA rep. Probably the place with the most accurate information.
