Wow! If that's the case it speaks volumes about him. Sure makes my point about his not being the norm at HA.
it would appear he was a fish out of water at HA and wanted to drag everyone down to his perspective. Unity my okole.....
Food for thought, it also highlights what AS and HA have in common. some want to leave and fair enough, not everyone wants to live in Hawaii and I suspect the same is true about the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. However, both airlines survived deregulation when so many others failed because of their unique culture. Big part of that culture is the employees.
Very complex issue for sure, at HA a key ingredient is the employees that want to be there and care about the company. Just like Alaska, HA offers much that others don't. Living in Hawaii and flying 2 and 3 day pairings or inter island flying while appreciating the benefits of the company's unique culture is a high priority. I suspect AS is similar with a Pacific Northwest vibe the same as HA's Hawaii vibe. Two really compatible airlines and AS appears to understand the importance of the culture of both airlines.

Thanks for showing up and 'getting it'. Together with Alaska Pilots we will have a great future.

I’d argue that the cultures that made both airlines great are really alive now only in memory. Both carriers have grown so quickly in the last decade or two that the culture was bound to be diluted.

Not the case in Hawaii to a large degree because it’s as if Anchorage was Alaska Airlines but with 3 aircraft types. Hawaiian is made up those born or transplants. Some commuters, but most of them get the culture. It’s more than an airline, because it really represents a place.

Have a few close friends at Hawaiian and I would certainly agree that their culture is more intact than Alaska’s which is undeniably more fragmented. But even they’ve seen the changes in the last few years amongst the new-hires that aren’t quite assimilating.

Out of curiosity, what are some examples of the Alaska culture that is dying off?

Edit: That was not meant to stir the pot. I genuinely would like to know.

Ive yet to see any “Alaska culture” anywhere. Management treats employees subpar our gate agents in the PNW treat our pilots and FAs subpar.

There are still remnants of the VX culture in the California bases if you look hard enough but the company has done its best to destroy that as well.

But don’t worry they’ve “learned their lesson about destroying a loved brand”. 😂

Isn't THAT the "Alaska culture?" That and calling an airplane "the jet" and ignoring the FH/FOM in Alaska

I'd agree with this. Don't forget treating JR pilots like absolute garbage and wondering why they keep leaving.
