You haven't answered my question on your timeline to upgrade. I suspect you took first available and your timeline is not characteristic of normal progression at AK. Enjoy your time in that seat, and if the cards play out that those senior to you make the decision to take upgrade, enjoy the seniority boost and schedule from the right seat.
Can’t wait to take some time off of work, hang out on the UPS forum and tell people to relax when they are likely going to lose their seat.Originally Posted by MD11Simnerd
I'll answer that. One clarification....... I elected to take November/December/January off (Voluntary Leave, zero pay, personal decision) prior to the accident. So I am at home, getting close to retirement, enjoying family and hobbies. I hang out on all the forums. The airline industry and what is going on is one of my interests. This is a small community and when I receive questions from people looking at AK saying "Is it really that bad at AK? I am reading xxx", I look into it for them. You haven't answered my question on your timeline to upgrade. Who’s losing their seat? Do people really think bidding 99% in the CA seat is a safe place to be? Originally Posted by GoodJet

Hey folks, would love to revive this thread. Fortunate to be sitting with an AS and Big 3 CJO and wondering how you think the eventual JCBA might compare to Big 3 contracts once ratified. Do you see the gap narrowing to be more competitive? And if so, in what areas? Essentially what current shortfalls seem to cause the most grumbles and hassle in terms of pay and QOL that also might get the most traction with the company during negotiation? Or do you see it maintaining roughly the same disparity as the current CBA and just broadening to address HA operations? Finally, what are some things you think the current CBA does better than Big 3 competition?
No 121 experience, but I know the devil is in the details so trying to learn what I can about where AS might be heading with the shakeup.
I also realize that this next contract alone won't define a 25 year career and that it's largely vibes based speculation at this point, but can't hurt to ask. Cheers!

What is the incentive for AS mgt to keep the AZ flying by taking 100% of the liability of employing pilot crews, zero ownership of the fleet involved, and barely making any money? Seems like it would be extremely expensive if we grew it to 20-30 planes, only one day to have Amazon cancel it. AS owns the pilots and no planes. Sounds like a horrible investment going forward with too much liability versus payoff.

The contract will be cancelled when it is most inconvenient for Goodjet. Probably in 3 years. He will be displaced next summer. It will take 2 and a half years for him to get Captain again. As soon as he’s through training they will announce that the amazon flying is cancelled. Then boom back to FO for GoodjetOriginally Posted by flysnoopy76

It was something HAL picked up in their desperation search for revenue. We take all the risk except fuel and MX? We are providing crews for planes that we do not own. What happens when they decide National has A330s and can do the flying cheaper than we can, and cancels the contract or doesn’t renew it? AS is now left with hundreds of WB CAs and FOs that have to be displaced, causing systemwide displacements?Originally Posted by TTail

I don’t see the benefit. No other legacy/major airline has a situation like this. While I would like an east coast base, this is not the way.

Right now it’s 140 pilots. Originally Posted by ShyGuy
