Commuter Hotel MOU
#1
United intends to hire 2500 next year. But, if you’d like to commute to an airline that has limited widebody operations from the West Coast, with only West Coast crew base options, who is getting rid of its commuter hotel policy (coincidentally with the future reality of even more pilots commuting due to the AK/HA merger)…. then by all means come to Alaska and watch your career stagnate for the next 10 yrs. 👍🏼

Lol…. and there’s nearly always a surplus of applicants when by comparison, your growth and career path is stagnant. “We have a surplus of applicants.” Really ? Why is that? “Because we don’t have many openings.” Why don’t you have many openings? “Because we’re not growing that much.” If you’re not growing that much and career progression is stagnant by comparison to other legacies, doesn’t that decrease the number of applications? “Sure, be we still have a surplus.” How can that be? “Because we don’t have many openings…. are you not paying attention!”

I never got why one group of pilots (commuters) continued to get hundreds of dollars in benefits a month and another group of pilots (in-base) didn’t get a commensurate benefit. Really should be paying the in-base pilots more for COL.
Yes, I understand the circumstances it was created under, always seemed whack to me.

Example: us mil people are subsidizing healthcare for all the civilians, but we don't need it. Before anyone gets triggered I'm not suggesting we shouldn't have healthcare, just making a point.
All such benefits should be negotiated, that way the representative process generally provides proper weighting of priorities for the entire group.

There are many benefits which apply only to a subset of the pilot group.
