This could get ugly on the bottom side for current CAs, since vacancies are awarded first, and then reductions. The more uber senior SEA/PDX crowds takes SAN vacancies, the worst the case for reductions.

“Vacancies awarded first, and then reductions”

Doesn’t that just mean new positions are awarded in seniority order? I don’t understand why people keep saying that like it’s some sort of complex idea.

The base reduction for SFO and LAX was given in percentages. 20-25%

Which means that 98-122 pilots will be reduced from both SFO and LAX combined.

A displacement and a downgrade are two different things.

Are they saying it would be more fair if current captains got first dibs for the SAN captain spots over current FOs? Even if the FO is senior? I’m confused

Sounds like a reduction bid but I guess we will find out eventually.

Certain forum members are saying that the opening of a SAN base means that downgrades are imminent, and have argued this *checks notes* recently.

Using these numbers, looking at a net gain or 18-42 CA slots.

The wildcard are the senior FOs bidding for CA. On the last bid there were 35 senior to me who wanted SEA CA. In a reduction bid these pilots could force junior pilots back to FO.
