It’s not rocket science. Lines are a mix of 1, 2, 3 & 4 day trips. 1 to 3 legs a day, an a mix of anywhere from 13-18 days off a month.

Thats pretty common sense. You could say that about any airline. I was looking for something more specific than, “you fly trips and get days off”.

If you aren’t here already it’s likely you wouldn’t experience our current line bidding as it exists today. If you came here as a new hire between waiting for a class, training, and being on reserve it’s likely that PBS would be implemented by the time you could hold a line. Other than that as a junior line holder you would probably get a 13 day off line full of all nighters for the first few months.

Based in SEA maybe, but they asked specifically about LAX & SFO. There are VERY few all nighter lines in either base. Like maybe 4 total out of 140 lines on average.

That’s exactly why I asked my question. It depends. And time utilization is different from airline to airline and I would like to know realistically what to expect.

Then there was a general freakout over the Virgin America merger and all hiring stopped for six months. When they started hiring again, did they call those people they had promised to call six months earlier? No. They roundfiled that list and I got an email asking me to "please reapply", just like all of the previous years when they purged their application files and made everybody start over.

While on the jumpseat, an Alaska FO told me that despite multiple internal recommendations and a check airman bugging the chief pilot on a regular basis on his behalf, it took three years for him to get an interview at Alaska.

That's how much Alaska appreciates your effort to get their attention.

Good luck.
Back in the day it was pretty much friends and family, and they could be picky because they were small and didn't hire much, and had west coast bases.

Somewhat different situation today.

What’s the current read on time from interview to class date? Have an interview next month and if hired, trying to tack down a rough timeline.

Stupid question but, do travel companions get access to One World partners or just Alaska operated flights?

That’s not a stupid question. Travel companions/kids/parents get free flights on Alaska flights only. They get ID90/Zed on other airlines.

I have stupid questions too!

Are they putting new hires on the airbus? I only ask because I already fly the thing. I'm fully aware that my future place is in the seat of a 737 whether I like it or not (including my current airline).

Also are they only located in the CA bases or did they spread them out after acquiring VX?
