I applied in May and didn’t hear anything until I went to a meet and greet in late Sep. But my times were not very competitive, low TT and 0 121. Things moved quickly after the meet and greet.

Since he has the choice, I too agree that he has made a valid decision.

Beautiful thing about this career is there is a trip, path, plane, location, schedule, or company for everyone.
I did miss it, I apologize. Agreed.

I got off on a tangent. My bad.

How is commuting at Alaska? I may be getting an interview soon and I'm considering my options. I live near MKE. There are direct flights to SEA I could hop on.

This would be temporary. I do intend on moving back out west one day.

Well I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you do intend to move back to a base then it’s definitely doable for a finite amount of time. The new CBA should make reserve much more tolerable as well.

You’ll need to give yourself 2 flights to get to work, so I’d make the drive to ORD to check that box since there’s tons of frequency. Signing up for commuter status will put you at the top of the non-rev list going to and from work which makes things a bit easier.

Did the new reserve rules kick in immediately? Everyone LC and short call conversion = no more 6x month.?

I spent several years chasing Alaska hither and yon, with loads more experience than the typical regional pilot, because I was told it would be points in my favor if I showed interest. Spent hours standing in line to talk to a recruiter for 5 minutes. Eventually got invited to a meet & greet after a couple years. Came out of that with a promise that I'd get a call in a few weeks. Then there was a general freakout over the Virgin America merger and all hiring stopped for six months. When they started hiring again, did they call those people they had promised to call six months earlier? No. They roundfiled that list and I got an email asking me to "please reapply", just like all of the previous years when they purged their application files and made everybody start over.

While on the jumpseat, an Alaska FO told me that despite multiple internal recommendations and a check airman bugging the chief pilot on a regular basis on his behalf, it took three years for him to get an interview at Alaska.

That's how much Alaska appreciates your effort to get their attention.

Good luck.

Is anyone willing to send me a DM of some lines? Or possibly a bid package? Just curious how an actual line looks. SFO or LAX. You can de-identify however you see fit. I'm just trying to get a better idea.

I commute. You can register as a commuter and it puts you on a higher standby priority than regular nonrevs. I’m usually #1 on the standby list 75% of the time. Plus you’ll have priority for the two FDJS.

To tack on…JS are first come, first serve. With the new CBA, we will be able to list electronically for the FDJS and pilots will be last to be booted off in the case of a weight restriction.
