You would be in a great spot if you moved to the bay area and were SFO based. It is a great base (maybe I am biased ) but it is so junior that your progression in base will be far greater in SFO so if you can live nearby, it will really put you in a good position.

And then you can go to United where all of that is true, plus widebodies if you desire! New hires getting SFO 737 Captain assignments

How do those narrow body bid packets look in sfo? I’ve heard not great.

I don't have any specific knowledge, but there has to be a reason that so few pilots there think the extra pay is worth being a junior captain that it goes all the way down to street captain.

The same reason there are 800 FOs system wide senior to our most junior captain. It's the same everywhere. It's a job. We'd all rather be somewhere else but it's how we pay the bills. What all of us do with our careers is an individual choice.

It's a pretty good job if you're senior, and even FO's are paid well so why upgrade unless you...

-Are single, or don't have kids at home.

-Need money badly for some reason.

-Want money badly for some personal goal (boat, FIRE, etc).

-Just want to get your PIC Authority on. Chicks at the grocery store dig four stripes.

-Wife's boyfriend wants you to upgrade.

If you have kids and at home and the wife has a decent job you can really get by just great without upgrade, unless you're living very large.

Some people recognize that they don't want to be captains, or shouldn't be captains. That is totally ok. I know a ton of senior FOs that covet their schedule freedom over everything. Some don't want to commute on reserve. There are plenty of reasons we have FOs not upgrading and none of them are unique to working at AS.

Hey all! Anyone familiar with how early (prior to active duty retirement) military guys can apply to Alaska? Or perhaps more importantly, be eligible to receive a CJO? Any insight would be much appreciated.

changes all the time. Get someone to walk you in and talk to a base chief pilot.
